4 Ways to De-Stress the Holistic Way

KC Eichstaedt
We all feel nervous, edgy or anxious at one time or another. When going through these stressful moments, it is important to find ways that you can de-stress the holistic way.

How Holistic De-Stressing Works

Holistic De-stressing helps you to balance your mind and body to create an overall emotionally calm spirit. Taking care to relieve the imbalances in your body starts with altering your thoughts and actions. You must also take care to monitor you reactions, especially when you cannot control a situation. Mental and physical de-stressing are both vital to maintaining overall holistic health.

One of the best ways to de-stress the holistic way is to meditate daily. Meditation not only trains you to breathe slowly and steadily, but it can help to de-stress after a long day. Meditation helps you to calm your body and mind and trains you to picture a relaxing and calming scene. In your mind, you travel to this relaxing scene and your whole body slowly de-stresses itself and you feel renewed and revitalized.

Holistic De-Stressing Methods

Calm Your Breathing - When you feel anxious or nervous your breathing changes. In some cases, the change can be so drastic as to cause hyperventilation. Focus on calming your breathing through slow and steady breaths. This can be practiced for a few minutes every day.

Slow Your Mind - Often when you are feeling anxious or nervous, these feelings stem from a mind that is cluttered with outside stressors and influences. We all have problems and tension in our lives. The key is to avoid focusing on them all day, every day. You have to step back and look at your problems from an objective view before you can create solutions to them.

Pamper Yourself Completely - Pampering yourself holistically involves the delicate treatment of your mind, body and spirit. Quality time alone is a gift that few of us give ourselves. Even quality time with a loved one who wants to improve their holistic health is a good idea. Soak in the tub if you enjoy a soothing bubble bath. Curl up in the quiet of a comfortable room in the house and enjoy some entertaining reading. Go for a soothing walk in a beautiful and peaceful place. Or, take a nap just to slow your mind and body for a few brief moments during the day.

Quiet Your Critical Voice - We are our own worst enemies and our own worst critics. If you tend to put too much on your own plate and never seem to accomplish everything, give yourself a break. We've all heard the saying "Rome wasn't built in a day." What makes us think we can do everything we need to in a day? It took a lot more time to make the list of everything that needs to be done, never mind actually accomplishing it all.

De-stressing also involves quieting that voice that tells us we have to be in constant motion and doing something. Whatever has to be done will still be there in two hours when you have taken a nap and de-stressed your mind and body a bit.

Everyone needs a break and some time away. Why not plan regular get-a-ways as your de-stress and recharge time. Just a short two or three day retreat to a peaceful and enjoyable place is all it takes to renew your mind, body and spirit and to give you a new de-stressed perspective of the world around you.
