4 Ways the iPad 2's Camera Could Have Been Better
Changes that Would Have Improved the iPad 2's Camera
Flash
One of the most disappointing features of the new iPad's camera is that it lacks a flash. Considering the fact that the front and back cameras are already low quality, not having a flash only makes the cameras worse and you'll likely have to be under studio lighting or outdoors to take a proper picture with Apple's new tablet. Flash is usually an assumed feature of any camera and it's a shame that the new iPad is lacking in that department.
Better Specs
The specs of the in the new iPad's cameras are laughably subpar. Apple never officially released the specifications, but most test sites and blogs have the cameras pegged at under 1 megapixel, which hasn't been standard since over a decade ago. I understand that a tablet shouldn't take the place of a digital camera, but considering how most current generation tablets have at least 2-5 megapixels, the specs of the iPad 2's cameras is a slap in the face of Apple fans.
Positioning
For some reason Apple felt that it was necessary to put the front and back cameras at the top of the iPad 2 instead of on its side. This doesn't seem like a major issue at first, but seeing how the Smart Cover [the iPad 2's premier accessory] only works as a horizontal stand, and not vertically, video chatting and taking pictures with the iPad 2's front and back facing cameras can prove to be a bit awkward.
Zoom
Having an optical zoom on the new Apple tablet is a bit too much to ask for, but I was shocked when I discovered that the iPad had no zoom whatsoever - not even a digital zoom. In order to take a close up picture with the iPad 2, you have to go about it the old fashioned way and bring yourself closer to the object - which won't work in all situations.
