4 Ways to Use Mint Julep Cups in Your Party Decor

Whether you are planning a wedding or just a fun dinner party, creative decor ideas are always important. Mint julep cups are readily available and add a great vintage touch to any table. Here are four ways to use mint julep cups in your party decor.

What They Are. Many people may not be familiar with what exactly mint julep cups are. In the past, a mint julep cup was used to serve the southern style drink, a mint julep. These containers are often made of silver or other style metal and can even be engraved. Look for mint julep cups at thrift stores or antique stores for an authentic variety. Or, if you are budget conscious, consider purchasing plastic ones at a local party supply shop.

Candleholders. One simple way to use a mint julep cup in your party decor is to place a candle in it. The exact size of the candle can vary from a tea light or votive variety on up, depending on the size of the mint julep cup. Vary the color of the candle depending on the occasion. For example, during the holidays include dark red and dark green colored candles. For a wedding, consider white candles. Or for a fun girl's night in, use bright pink.

Floral Arrangements. Floral arrangements are a beautiful way to use mint julep cups in your party decor. Simply gather a bunch of your favorite flowers. Bind the stems together using a bit of floral tape, which is available at your local florist or craft supply store. Trim the stems so that the flowers sit just atop the mint julep cup. Add a bit of water, insert the flowers, and place in the center of your party table. If desired, you can place multiple of these arrangements together.

Place Card Holders. There are multiple ways you can use a cup to create a place card holder. One way is to print the guest's name on cardstock and attach it with a piece of double sided tape on the back. Or, insert a small block of florist's foam into the cup. Trim a small dowel to fit in the cup and stick up. Attach a place card with your guest's name printed to the dowel with a bit of hot glue. Treat Holder. Another great party decor use for mint julep cups is as treat holders. Insert small candies, pastry sticks, or other goodies into a mint julep cup. Place several in the center of your table with each holding a different type. Since julep cups come in a variety of sizes, feel free to mix and match.
