Janice Villa
Starting today, January 1st, 2008 through March 31st, 2008, the federal government is offering $40 coupons to all consumers to help with the cost of switching their televisions to a digital signal. This $1.5 billion program is set up to help with the major change coming on February 17th, 2009. At that time all broadcast televison stations will turn off their analog signals and start transmitting only in digital.

Consumers can get this coupon four different ways.

By telephone at : 1- 888- DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009), TTY 1-877-530-2634

By fax : Fax a coupon application to 1-877-DTV-4ME2 (1-877-388-4632)

On the internet : www.dtv2009.gov

By mail: Send a request for the application or mail the completed application to

The reason for the switch to digital is to free up valuable airwaves for public safety agencies and for new wireless phone and internet services. It will also add additional channels for those who don't have television pay services. The picture is going to be much clearer too. If you would like further information on the switch to all digital please visit: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html.

The new converter boxes are set to be available in February at more than 14,000 government certified retail outlets. Some of these certified outlets are Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, Sears, Target and Wal-Mart. The cost of the converter boxes is $59.95 to $69.95. The free coupon from the federal government will save consumers $40 off those prices. Coupons expire 90 days after they are mailed. Only one coupon can be used to purchase up to two, digital-to-analog coupon-eligible converter boxes.

You know we got these stupid coupons back in 2008, now it is 2011, we are finally getting some digital signals. Well about a year ago my box went out. I called the 800 number and got some FOOL in some foriegn country that speaks very POOR ENGLISH. He try's to trouble shoot what may be wrong with this BOX. Well let me tell you this is the biggest scam I"ve ever seen. All they did was get our money, and now we have no digital TV because, the bos does not work. People let me tell you, the government is taking advantage of us all. Why did we not have digital TV in 2009, the way they promised us? Well this is the way it is,and get used to it they won"t budge. In the end the people that will benefit from this, is you"re CABLE Company. You want digital then go Basic Cable, You're Converter Box is a useless poece of CRAP.
