Clorox With Bleach
I originally decided to try using Clorox With Bleach when I was trying to save some money on cleaning supplies. It had a name brand and was inexpensive (less than $2 for a bottle) so I decided to try it. I was very disappointed in this product. The first, and perhaps only, thing I noticed about the cleaner was the noxious odor it emitted. Yes, the bottle said it contained bleach, but I did not expect the smell to instantly fill the room after I had sprayed it a couple of times. At first I tried to ignore it, hoping that after I used it for a little while I would get used to the way it smelled and it would no longer bother me. However, the pervasive stench got increasingly stronger, to the point that I thought I might get sick from continued exposure to it. Even after I had been cleaning a cabin for two hours, I could still smell the Clorox with bleach I had used in the bathroom at the beginning of the job and I was concerned that the customers would complain.
How did it do the job? Clorox with bleach is an extremely strong cleanser. It will remove dirt and grime and eliminate odors (though the previous odors will be replaced by the pungent bleach smell). The problem comes when you have used it for a few minutes and can't stand it anymore. I highly suggest you use this cleaner only in well-ventilated areas, and for short periods of time. As with any cleaners and especially those with bleach, be sure to use gloves and cover your clothes as this product may leave bleach spots.
409
409 is a product that has been with me since the beginning of my cleaning days, and it has proven a reliable, effective cleaning agent.
Though it is a strong chemical that can damage skin, the manufacturer did a great job of masking the contents with a pleasant smell. In fact, more than once I have had customers comment on the "fresh smell" they notice in their homes after I have been cleaning with 409. The bottle is durable and easy to use. The cleaning liquid goes on smoothly and surfaces are easily wiped down with a rag or paper towels. As the name "all purpose cleaner" suggests, 409 can be used on kitchen counters, sinks, vanities, showers, tubs and toilets. I have also used it for spot checking floors, or it can be diluted in hot water and used for mopping. Another great aspect of 409 is the fact that it will not stain your clothing and, if it does get on your skin, will not cause burning or itching (unless you have a chemical allergy). 409 is a little more expensive than Clorox with bleach, being priced around $3 a bottle. It is also important to use this and all cleaners in a well-ventilated area.
When it comes to choosing all purpose cleaners for your home, know what is important to you. Is cost the most important factor? If so, you may find yourself dreading cleaning because of the smell or irritants your cleansers release. However, if you are willing to spend a few dollars more, you will enjoy cleaning with a product that both does a good job and smells pleasant.
