44 States Consider Selling Bridges and Roads

Does This Infringe Upon Citizens' Rights as Tax Payers?

According to a Dec. 27, 2008, Associated Press story, as many as 44 states are considering selling off assets, including bridges and roads.

The story states, " In New York, Democratic Gov. David Paterson appointed a commission to look into leasing state assets, including the Tappan Zee Bridge north of New York City, the lottery, golf courses, toll roads, parks and beaches. Recommendations are expected next month."

Uh, hold your crackers there, folks, but who owns those roads and bridges; the states or the people that paid the taxes to build the roads, bridges, parks and lakes and what not? Can they really sell or lease our stuff without our permission? Can they sell what we paid to have built? Are they now going to sell our infrastructure to private parties and 'we the people' will suddenly have to pay who knows what amount to use our roads or bridges or feed the ducks? Am I following this logic?

Here's an interesting quote from the same article, some guy Price said," "You're privatizing some profits in this process and socializing some losses," Gee that almost sounds like tit for tat poppy cock. Six of one, half dozen of the other, just ignore the man behind the curtain and go back to sleep, it will all be over in the morning talk.

So in other words, we are socializing our losses AGAIN! And who pays for this? Uh, we do! And who gains from this? That's a really good question. Perhaps Japan or China- I don't know; does anyone have any money to burn on bridges? Or perhaps the very few, very wealthy, so wealthy we don't even know their names do. We'll only know a brand name and a subsidiary of the brand and the price of admission. This seems to be okay for both parties.

It's when we start socializing our profits that the 'haves and the ignorant poor/middle class types that are under the delusion that by agreeing with the haves they might have a chance to have something too-- join in chanting together that we are now LIVING in a SOCIALIST COUNTRY. That is when WE as in generally me, the rest of you poor slobs, and the mouse in my pocket start having a problem.

And might I add if we sell off the infrastructure that 'New Deal' might start looking like a raw deal when we are suddenly paid in wages, half of what it costs to cross the road, as we are to fix it. Just between you and us chickens ... I think it's time to stop crossing the road.

The Brooklyn Bridge, one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States, stretches 5,989 feet (1825 m)[1] over the East River, connecting the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn (on Long Island). [wikipedia]

the fact is china and japan..many countries already own tons of property here, but I thought selling our roads and bridges ...well it's a bad omen.

I was told about this a year ago by a friend. He says China and other countries (some not so friendly to the U.S.) are going to be the buyers. He also claims they are trying to build a superhighway from Mexico to New York. Mexican truckers will not have to stop at the border or have their loads inspected and will be exempt from any U.S. laws. In other words, if they get drunk and cause an accident in which someone is killed, they cannot be prosecuted. Sounds far-fetched, but I didn't know what to believe when he told me about the selling of our bridges and roads--and here is an article about that very thing.
