Go to the bookstore and pick up a book on something you always wanted to learn how to do, such as gourmet cooking, balloon art, or learning a new language. You could even research classes in your area on the subject.
Go through old CDs, DVDs and books, and sell them for cash. Half Price Books and some music and game stores will actually buy your used items and give you cash for them. This is also a great way to get rid of unwanted stuff.
If you like working with children, consider picking up a few babysitting jobs for extra cash. This is especially good if you have nothing to do on Friday nights. You'd be surprised how many parents just want a night out to themselves. You could be their savior.
Go through your pantry and plan meals with only your pantry items. This is a wonderful way to get organized and save money too.
Go for a jog on the nearest trail. Take your MP3 player with you and burn some calories.
Grab a friend and go to a public pool. This is a good way to relax and have a good time, while catching some sun rays.
Write articles for AssociatedContent.com, or a similar website. If you have niche for freelance writing, Associated Content may be a great way for you to get published and earn some extra cash at the same time.
Go to www.bulletinsandsurveys.com and fill out some surveys for fun. Send them to your friends and have them fill them out in return. It's a fun way for your friends to get to know things about you that they didn't already know. It's also fun to post them on MySpace, if you have a profile.
If you enjoy photography, take your camera and go take some pictures. Websites such as istockphoto.com will pay you for the pictures you take and send to them.
Help people out by answering questions on Yahoo! Answers. If you are an expert at something, or you just know a lot of information, you may be able to help others with your experiences. There are thousands of questions on there, many of which are unresolved and are in need of an answer. Every best answer gets 10 points!
Visit www.bored.com to see if there's anything on there that interests you.
Have a movie night at home, either by yourself or with a friend. Go all out and get the sleeping bags and a big bowl of popcorn. Rent a movie at your local video store, use Netflix or buy a movie with Comcast On Demand.
Call up an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time, and make plans to go to lunch and catch up.
If you're up to something new, go to the hair salon and get a new hairstyle, or a new hair color. Be as a creative or daring as you want to be.
Get up off the couch and do an exercise, whether it be 15 minutes on the treadmill (if you have one), or 20 situps on the living room floor. Exercise is always a good thing for your health, and it could never hurt to get some more exercise into your day.
Create a "to-do" list and jot down everything you've been meaning to do, but haven't been able to do.
Watch interesting videos on YouTube, or make your own videos to post.
Find new music to listen to, and download new songs to your iPod. This is a good way to discover new artists and bands that you've never heard of before.
Go onto www.allrecipes.com and find a new recipe that you'd like to try. Cook up something different that you've never tried before. Who knows, you may love it!
Go through old photos and make a scrapbook. Craft stores such as Michael's or Joann Fabrics have a wide variety of stickers, papers, and books to choose from. Scrapbooks are a wonderful keepsake, and you can be as creative as you want.
Create a profile on MySpace, Facebook, or a similar site (if you don't already have one) and search for old friends or coworkers.
If you like sports, try a new sport that you haven't played before. Kickboxing and karate are two of my favorites. Not only is it beneficial your health, it's also good to know how to defend yourself. It's also good to tell people that you are a Black Belt; it's intimidating.
Take a nap and catch up on your sleep.
Go fishing! It's a great spring and summer activity, either by yourself or with a friend.
Play online games. I especially like the online versions of TV game shows, such as Family Feud and Deal or No Deal.
Pack a picnic basket and have a picnic in the park with a friend or your significant other.
Plan a weekend getaway to somewhere close. For example, I live in Pittsburgh, PA and I would plan a weekend getaway to Seven Springs Mountain Resort, which has all kinds of activities year round, including golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Your getaway doesn't have to be considered a vacation, and it doesn't have to be far away either.
Take a nice, hot bubble bath to relax and unwind.
Go to the flea market and see what kind of bargains you can get your hands on.
Prank call someone! It sounds immature, but if you come up with something funny to say on the phone, it can be entertaining.
Go donate blood at your local blood bank. If you donate plasma, you could even get paid for it!
Rent a rug scrubber (if you don't already have one of your own), and scrub your dirty rugs. I'm sure the carpets need it!
Go to the dollar store and spend a few bucks on useless things.
Plan a party, like a backyard BBQ or pot luck dinner, for no reason at all. Invite everyone.
If you have a dog, go play Frisbee with him/her.
Wash and wax your car. Clean out the interior, throw out all the garbage in your backseat and vacuum the seats and floor. Armor All the dashboard, Wet Shine your tires and wipe the windows with glass cleaner. This beats getting your car detailed, you can just do it yourself.
Turn on the radio and dance to a good hip-hop song.
Paint your bedroom a different color.
Give yourself a spa treatment. Do your nails, exfoliate your skin, etc.
Go roller skating or ice skating at an indoor skating rink.
Play the game Operation, and see how many body parts you can remove.
Research an online college or school and learn something new.
Buy a set of blocks, or some containers of Play-Doh, and make something. Feel like a kid again.
Go to an expensive clothing store, and try on expensive clothes. Take pictures of yourself.
