4th Edition D&D: Best Magic Items for Druids

Michael Strauss
Creating an effective character in 4th edition D&D isn't just about combining a good mix of attributes, powers, feats, race, class, and skills. A truly effective character also needs the right selection of magic items to synergize with the character's build. Inefficient or useless magic items can make a character surprisingly weak, while powerful and efficient magic items can greatly increase the effectiveness of a character. Presented are some of the best magic items for making an effective 4th edition druid.

Iron Armbands of Power - Damage is not critical for a druid, but with a large number of melee attacks, these armbands will allow a druid to minor in the role as striker.

Brooch of Vitality - Druids are the one type of controller that is on the front line of battle. This neck item will increase the druid's maximum hit point total, making front line combat less deadly for the druid.

Trollskin Armor - Regeneration for an encounter is simply the best choice for any character expecting to be on the front line of combat. This should always be a top choice for druids.

Staff of Power - For druids that specialize in area attacks, rather than wild shape abilities, this staff is a great way to potentially recover a daily attack power.

Summoner's Staff - Druid summons are very powerful and will attack, without instruction, every round. This staff will improve the critical hit damage of those attacks and punish enemies that try to remove the summoned creature from the combat.

Displacer Armor - This is one of the few choices that are as good as trollskin armor. This armor will greatly decrease enemy hit percentage whether the druid is in melee or at range.

Great Cat Armor - When a druid uses wild shape to become humanoid again, the druid is allowed to shift one square. This lets the druid shift an additional square, which gets the druid further from danger or allows it to shift while surrounded by difficult terrain.

Ring of Many Forms - Wild shape is a polymorph power. With this ring, a druid can potentially gain a +1 bonus to every single attack roll the druid makes. This is an essential item for every druid.

Claw Gloves - Similar to the iron armbands of power, these gloves allow a druid to minor as a striker, especially a druid that focuses on beast form attack powers. Gaining combat advantage is generally not difficult for melee characters with a lot of shifting powers.

Proper selection of magic items is all about choosing magic items that work best with the strengths of the characters. Druids specialize in providing good control both in melee and at range, while also providing a slightly above average damage output. This short list of magic items will give druids a powerful advantage in fulfilling their combat role.
