4th of July 2010 Events in Central Florida

Lisa Stevens
Independence Day is a time of year for families and friends to come together to celebrate the birth of the United States of America while taking time to remember everyone who has worked hard and fought to make this country into what it is today.

Many people will pause to remember the men and women who have served this country proudly while enjoying the 4th of July by celebrating with friends and family at cook outs, BBQ's, swimming, parties, picnics and fireworks. Take the time this 4th of July holiday weekend to enjoy yourself at any of the events happening around Central Florida. The following are events in the Central Florida area for the 4th of July.

Big Fun at the Fountain -

Join the City of Orlando and Mayor Buddy Dyer as they celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks over Lake Eola with the return of the Lake Eola Fountain. The day includes different food from around the world and entertainment for the adults and kids along with games for all ages. There will also be a beer and wine garden.

This is one of the city's biggest annual traditions in downtown Orlando and there will be a large celebration this year to celebrate the fountain's return after being hit by lightning earlier this year. This event fills past capacity every year with over 100,000 people attending.

The day starts off at 4PM and continues until 9:15PM when Mayor Buddy Dyer will set off the fireworks display from the Lake Eola fountain. The fireworks will last about 20 minutes and will be going off to the sounds of Patriotic music.

Location - 400 S. Orange Ave. Orlando, FL.
Times - 4PM to 10PM
For More Information - Call (407) 246-3104

Star Spangled Sanford -

The City of Sanford and the Federal Trust Bank present the City of Sanford's annual Star Spangled Sanford on the RiverWalk. The day will include a celebration of fireworks on The Saint John's River. Your family will enjoy a day of games and entertainment for all ages.

The day starts at 5PM and continues until 9:00PM when the fireworks start. There will be food and drinks at different points around the lake and the city asks you do not bring your own food or drinks with you to the celebration. Pets are also off limits. The fireworks generally run for 40 minutes and will be set to the backdrop of Patriotic music.

Parking is pretty limited in the area around the the River Walk, so be prepared to walk a considerable distance if you are parking away from that area.

Location - Sanford's River Walk & Fort Mellon Park - 300 N. Park Ave. Sanford, FL.
Times - 5PM to 10PM
For More Information - Call (407) 330-5600

Red, White and Zoo -

This all day event is being offered by the Sanford Zoo on July 3rd and 4th with a paid admission from 9AM to 3PM. Celebrate the 4th of July weekend and the Central Florida Zoo's 35th Birthday with live music, games, food, children's crafts, face painting, magic, a water slide and zoo animal encounters.

This is a very popular event every year and sells out quickly on both days. I would recommend getting there early because space is pretty limited in the parking lot and they tend to run out of spaces before they sell out tickets.

While you are there you can also enjoy, the Children's Water Park, which gives the kids a chance to cool off and parents a chance to relax in comfy Cape Cod style chairs. Remember to bring a towel or change of clothes for the kids.

Location - 3755 NW Highway 17-92, Sanford, FL.
Times - July 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th 9AM to 3PM each day

Food and activities will be available throughout the day for everyone and you can also bring your own picnic lunches for your family. This is a very popular event that draws almost 200,000 people yearly to it. I would really recommend getting there early because parking is very limited around the main Cranes Roost Park area.

Location - 150 Cranes Roost Blvd. Altamonte Springs, FL.
Times - July 3rd 4PM to 11PM
For More Information - (407) 571-8857

Deltona 4th of July Celebration at Dewey O. Boster Park -

The City of Deltona will be hosting its annual 4th of July celebration. This year at the Park and Sports Complex the festivities start on July 4th at 6PM and continue until 10PM with the fireworks starting at 9:15PM. There will be live entertainment on the main stage from 7-10PM as well as booths around the playground that will be selling food, drinks and souvenirs.

I would recommend getting to the park about 30 minutes before the events start because parking here is limited and fills up fast. If you can't get into the park itself to park there are private residences that will allow you to park on their lawns usually for a small amount of money as well as Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church around the corner. The park handles between 10,000 and 15,000 people yearly at this event and the streets surrounding the park are usually mobbed before and after the fireworks go off.

Location - 1200 Saxon Blvd. Deltona, FL.
Times - July 4th 4PM to 10PM
