4th of July Celebration in Wentzville, Missouri

Enjoy a Day of Free Activities

Denise McGrail
Celebrate the 4th of July this year with hometown pride at the annual Wentzville July 4th Celebration. Every year the 4th of July festivities aim to bring families and friends together to celebrate our country and the freedoms that we enjoy.

My family and I have taken part in the various events the city offers throughout the day for many years and this year will be no exception. My daughters' favorite part is the parade where they are showered with candy, red, white and blue beads and the occasional Popsicle. My favorite part is that the entire day is filled with activities and they are all FREE! Here is this year's itinerary.

Parade
The Wentzville, Missouri festivities start early on the 4th of July with a festive, energetic parade that navigates through the heart of the town. Beginning at 10am the parade begins on East Pearce Boulevard. This year's theme is "Liberty - Our Heritage, Our Hope." Local businesses and organizations are features and always have unique floats that add hometown flair to the parade.

It is a good idea to claim your spot early. Picking a location close to the parade's starting point will ensure that your children get their share of the goodies that are passed out. Last year many floats began to run out of candy near the hallway point which is right around City Hall on Pearce Boulevard.

Free Swimming
If the past week's temperatures have been any indication of how hot it can get here in the Wentzville area, then you can be certain that the 4th of July will be on fire. Once the parade is over, take your family over to the Progress Park Swimming Pool for a free day of swim from noon - 7:00pm.

While admission is free, concessions are not. If you want something to munch on while you swim be sure to bring a little extra cash with you. There are lockers available to secure your valuables.

Also, have patience. Everyone loves something free and if the weather is agreeable the pool will be packed! The Progress Park Pool is located at 968 Meyer Road.

Free Music and Activities
Reggae and classic rock will be the soundtrack for the day. The Wizard Island band will be jamming' with island sounds from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Then the tracks will change and beginning at 6:00pm, until just before the fireworks begin, Kickstand will take the stage and get you reminiscing with classic rock from the 70's, 80's and 90's.

While the music is playing in the background, let the kids enjoy the pool and check out the inflatables and clowns that will be available on the grounds of Progress Park.

Fireworks
Wentzville has a strict no-fireworks policy. Avoid a ticket and head out to Progress Park to enjoy the sensational fireworks display. The display starts promptly at 9:05pm.

If you will be coming out just for the fireworks display, it may be a good idea to allow extra time to navigate the streets to get to Progress Park. Road closures may be necessary depending on where they are shooting off the fireworks this year. In the past, they have shot off of Wentzville Parkway just before Meyer Road. There are several new businesses in the area so the location may have changed this year.

You can call Progress Park for more information at (636) 327-POOL (7665).

I wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
