Many great 4th of July events are actually held outside the city of Portland, Oregon. Here are a few nearby Fourth of July events in the smaller towns and communities.

Happy Valley 4th of July Family Festival
The town of Happy Valley holds their annual Family Festival in Happy Valley Park. Festivities begin at 9:00 a.m. with a guided Independence Hike (meet at the 145th Wetlands parking lot). A family parade with floats, wagons and bikes begins at 145th and Ridgecrest Road at noon, and ends at the park. Music, games, crafts, slides and bounce houses will be available at the park, and fireworks will begin at dusk. All events are free! Parking is plentiful, but post-fireworks traffic can be heavy. Tigard Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration
Tigard's celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Tigard High School soccer field (corner of Hall Blvd. and Durham Rd.). This Fourth of July event features clowns, live music, games, and police and fire vehicles. Light snacks will be available for sale. Fireworks begin at dusk. Estacada 4th of July Fun Festival
The town of Estacada celebrates the Fourth of July in a big way, with a parade, a Fun Festival and "The Big Bang" Fireworks Sky show. The parade is first, beginning at Estacada High School at 12:00 p.m. The Fun Festival and live entertainment begin at 2:00 p.m. The public entrance for the Fun Festival and fireworks show is at 350 NE 6th Ave in Estacada. Food is available for purchase. Fireworks begin at dusk.

Stevenson, Washington
Stevenson, in the Columbia River Gorge, hosts an Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration in Rock Creek Park. Games include a keg toss, tug-o-war, three-legged races, and sack races! Food vendors will be on site. Live music begins at 6:00 p.m. and fireworks at approximately 10:00 p.m. Rock Creek Park is located on SW Rock Creek Road, just off of State Highway 14. Hood River - Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum 4th of July Extravaganza
The Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM) says they'll have "L-Birds from across the West Coast flying in to join WAAAM in our annual Hood River Parade formation Fly-by." WWII Jeep club members will also be there (presumably with Jeeps), and veterans sharing their memories. The museum is at 1600 Air Museum Road in Hood River. Museum admission is $12.00 for adults and $6 for children ages 5-12.
