4th of July Fireworks Near Fredericksburg, VA

Where and when to Go for Fireworks This Independence Day

April Bair
In 2009 Independence Day is on Saturday but area fireworks displays and celebrations are scheduled for the 4th, 5th, 11th and even June 28th! When planning your festivities be aware that not all 4th of July celebrations will present a fireworks display this year so be sure that the event you choose will be firing rockets!

Some brave souls will reap the rewards of traveling into Northern Virginia and Washington, DC to enjoy pyrotechnic magic over the National Mall and the Potomac but if you want to see a great show closer to home consider these options.

Already committed on the 4th? Will you be at a party or event that doesn't involve colorful explosions but still want to get your annual patriotic fix? No problem! Get in the spirit with the Spotsylvania Stars and Stripes Spectacular on Sunday June 28th, 2009 or catch "Not on the Fourth Fireworks" at Tim's II in Fairview Beach Saturday the 11th of July. The Spotsylvania event gets better every year and is a great event for all ages with fireworks around 9:20pm . For a more adult style of entertainment with great seafood and awesome drinks get to Tim's II early!

If a traditional red, white and blue Independence Day celebration on the 4th is more your style there is no doubt that you will be heading for July Fourth Spectacular at Pratt Park across the river from Fredericksburg. End a great day at the Fredericskburg Heritage Festival downtown and at George Washington's Ferry Farms' Fabulous Fourth of July activities watching the Pratt Park fireworks at dusk or catch a great fireworks show west on route three in Culpepper. Most of Culpepper County will be in town around Yowell Meadow Park where dinner and games start at 5pm followed by fireworks at dark. Another red, white and blue option is the 4th of July celebration at the Blue and Gray Brewing Co. where you can eat, drink, watch a demonstration on proper American flag disposal and enjoy fireworks at dusk

Dare devils might consider screaming the day away an area theme park. Take a trip to the old country at Busch Garden's Europe or watch the fireworks over Kings' Dominion's replica Eiffel Tower. Kings Dominion will celebrate with patriotic music and fireworks on July 4th and 5th. Busch Gardens is a little further from the Fredericksburg area but offers free admission to service members and their family through the Hero Salute Program.

For a truly patriotic fourth head to Quantico Marine Base for 4th of July at Lunga Park. The event is admission free and open to the public but all visitors must show identification. Drivers must present valid drivers' license and be sure that your car is properly registered with current proof of insurance! No personal fireworks or weapons of any kind are allowed on Quanitco MCB. Music starts at 2 pm and carnival rides will be open from 4:30-8:30 with fireworks at 9:15.

Enjoy the Fourth and Celebrate America!

  • Spotsylvania County will celebrate early this year.
  • Great events in Culpeper, Quantico and Fredericksburg.
  • Ever consider celebrating at an amusement park?
The economy almost cancelled fireworks for Fredericksburg and Stafford County this year. Help keep the tradition alive by joining the crowd!
