Fun Facts About the 4th of July

There are five locations in America with the word America or American in the name. There are 30 locations in America that have the word Liberty in the name. Iowa leads the United States with four locations that have the word Liberty in the name. You can read more 4th of July fun facts at the above link.

4th of July Trivia and News of the Day

Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson all served on a committee that selected the eagle as America's national seal. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national seal but was out voted. It is against the law to shoot an eagle. You can read more 4th of July trivia at the above link.

4th of July Fun Facts About Patriotic Music

Did you know that Katherine Lee Bates wrote this song in 1893 while on a lecture trip to Colorado? A group from the lecture, who were strangers, celebrated the close of the session by taking an expedition to the top of Pikes Peak. Some of the visitors became ill from the altitude, so their stay at the top of Pike's Peak was cut short. During the descent in prairie wagons, Bates wrote the opening words to America the Beautiful.
