Jolynne M Hudnell
Let you kids make patriotic mobiles this Independence Day using paper plates and a few other supplies with this 4th of July mobile paper plate craft for kids.

Supplies. The basis for this mobile is a paper plate. However, you will need some other materials as well. You'll need 1 paper plate, red poster paint, hole punch, white yarn, blue construction paper, star stencil and a small metal or plastic keyring.

Instructions. Start by carefully cutting the center out of a paper plate, leaving about a two inch rim. Try to keep the center intact as that will be used too.

Paint the center of the plate red. Let dry then paint the other side. After drying, punch five holes evenly spaced around the edge of this piece. Leave the rim white. Punch five holes evenly spaced around the edge of this piece as well.

Use the star stencil to make five blue stars out of construction paper. Punch a hole in one point, this will be the top of the star.

Cut five pieces of yarn about eight inches long. Tie each piece through a hole in the red center paper plate piece. Then tie all five pieces through the keyring, as this will be what you can hang the completed mobile with.

Cut five more pieces of yarn about six inches long. Tie these through the holes in both the center paper plate piece and the rim piece.

Cut five more pieces of yarn one each of six inches, eight inches, ten inches, twelve inches and fourteen inches. Tie one end of each piece of string through the hole in the top of each star, then tie to paper plate rim. You now have a 4th of July mobile paper plate craft.
