4th of July: Patriotic Decorations for Your Home

Melina Ann Collison
With 4th of July right around the corner you need to decorate your home with red, white, and blue. From streamers to flags you want your party to have it all. Here are five original 4th of July patriotic decorations for this holiday season.

Flags

The American Flag has always been a 4th of July favorite. However, there is so much more that you can do with a flag than you realize. Place flags all over your house with flag pillows and throws, flag decorative lights, flag tee-shirts, flag chip and dip bowls, and flag dinnerware. You could have someone do face painting at the party and paint flags on your guest's faces, arms, legs, and anything else exposed.

All materials needed for this design can be found at Target.com. Please remember our Flag Laws when handling the American flag.

Stars

Grab some large poster board and cut out all different sizes of stars. Let your kids color them or decorate in red, white, and blue. Hand these stars from your porch, your ceiling, and your doorways. Create a cascading design of stars all over your home. Paste stars on your walls and have The Star Spangled Banner played at the festivities. Remember to salute the flag while the song is playing. Maybe you could display the history of our Star Spangled Banner at your party.

You can get large poster board, colors, markers, and paints for these decorations at Walgreens.com. Remember to pick up a hold punch, string, and tape to hang the stars in your home.

Red, White, and Blue

If you just simply cannot find enough themed items for your festive 4th of July party try sticking to the basic red, white, and blue color scheme. Visit your local dollar store or thrift store and pick up white cups, red napkins, blue plates, red straws, white chip bowls, blue tablecloths, and any decorations you can find for your walls that are 4th of July related. You do not have to make every decoration the same, staying with a basic color scheme will work.

Balloons

Balloons are a big hit with all age groups. Get tons of red, white, and blue balloons. If you can find flag balloons get those too. Mylar balloons or long skinny balloons for kids to blow up are all okay for this type of party. Write Happy 4th of July on the balloons and let your guests take them home when each person leaves. Have a balloon decorating contest for the adults and children and offer a bag of balloons as a first place prize.

Your local party supply store will help you obtain all these balloons your going to need. If you are having helium balloons blown up I suggest bringing a larger vehicle and trash bags to help keep the balloons contained.

Streamers

Cover your house in decorative streamers for this 4th of July. Let them fall from the doors, windows, mailbox, ceiling fans, and any other area you can put them. Stay with 4th of July colors or themes for your streamers. Wrap the streamers around stair railings, fences, chairs, and tables. Get accessories to match your streamers. Have a streamer contest and see who can create the best 4th of July costume using streamers.

You can find glittery streamers, graphic streamers, USA streamers, as well as red, white, and blue ones from Target.com. Order now to ensure delivery by your party date.
