Have you ever felt like doing something special on the 4th of July, other than just watching your town's annual fireworks display? If this is the case, you should seriously consider taking a road trip to historic town of Ticonderoga, New York. Ticonderoga is home to only about 5,000 people, all of which are welcoming and happy to have visitors to help their economy boom. With plenty of different restaurants, shopping locations, and historic landmarks, Ticonderoga is the perfect place to take your family on vacation on this wonderful American Holiday.

Ticonderoga's own La Chute Road Runners, an organization known for promoting fun and healthy activities for people of all ages will host their annual Montcalm Mile on the historic streets of downtown Ticonderoga. Each year, hundreds of contestants of all age groups either run or walk this extremely fast mile to both support the Road Runner's organization and enjoy themselves at the same time. With the small entrance fee of $10.00, countless people line up in preparation of the starting gun. The La Chute Road Runners Organization provides scholarship money for graduating seniors from Ticonderoga High School, some of which is no doubt taken from this busy event. Not only does Ticonderoga host the Montcalm Mile, but all of 4th of July weekend, Ticonderoga hosts a Carnival. This comes complete with a Ferris wheel, a number of other rides, and many different side games to take part in. Although not free, the Carnival is a great place to take the kids for the day. After you tire from the Carnival atmosphere, at about 9:00pm, you can witness the spectacular fireworks display over the La Chute River. People of all sizes and shapes sit down on the banks of the beautiful La Chute River to watch the multi-colored fireworks.

In between running the Mile, having fun at the Carnival, and watching these glorious fireworks, visitors can go the famous Fort Ticonderoga, a historic landmark that most definitely needs to be seen in one's lifetime. With prices ranging from $15.00 to free admission for children under 7, Fort Ticonderoga welcomes nearly 90,000 people each year, many of which on this day of celebration of America's first victory during the American Revolution.
