5 Absolutely Ridiculous Hi-Tech Gadgets

Tony Moreira
We are surrounded and dependent on gadgets.

Everywhere our daily life takes us, we are either exposed to gadgets that offer convenience or comfort ability. Most of us almost always never leave home without our smartphone, laptop, touchpad, gps, digital camera, or e-reader. Admittedly, many of these things have become more of a necessity than luxury for personal or professional reasons. Gadgets benefit and intrigue us, and we are always looking forward to the next best thing. Some gadgets, however, aren't always the most practical, useful, or let's face it - they are just silly.

Solar powered hat fans:

There are a variety of these available; some will clip on hats you already own, while others come built-in. Anyone is likely to see a few problems with this particular gadget. First and foremost, they look downright ridiculous while wearing. Additionally, the clip model app model - the fan is intended to blow in your face. This places spinning blades that dangle in your face while obstructing your view. Besides, even while standing directly in the sun (which in a small way defeats the purpose), can the fan really make that much of a difference.

The portable watermelon cooler:

For those that can't cut up a watermelon and put it in a regular cooler, there is the portable watermelon cooler. When I saw this particular gadget online, I had to do a little more poking around to truly believe what I was seeing. Sporting a retractable handle like those found on small carry-ons, the portable watermelon cooler rolls on two wheels while being pulled. All product shots to be found of the cooler resemble a spaceship with a glass bubbled top. More important, however, is that the watermelon is sitting comfortably in the cooler which is the most important part here. I wasn't able to find out whether it is compatible with other fruit.

Gizmodo calls it "One Insane Gadget" (Taser Gun + MP3 Player + Leopard Skin = One Insane Gadget)

In a push to become a bit more mainstream, Taser has integrated an MP3 player into a line of its Tasers so user can enjoy music while electrocuting someone. Take that idea and push it one step further with designer colors and patterns, such as, the leopard skin, and you have quite a product.

Puppy Tweets:

Just about everyone is on Twitter, so why not setup an account for your dog, and let him or her tweet? Mattel recently introduced Puppy Tweets a clip-on that you attach to a dog collar and can detect motion and sound, turning the actions into tweets that are received by a supplied USB receiver. Puppy Tweets can detect up to 500 different behaviors and will translate them into cute tweets, such as, "Guess what I'm licking right now."

The Toilet Paper Dispensing iPod Dock:

Simply put, a toilet paper dispenser that accommodates an iPod and includes built-in speakers. I'm assuming the in a way, goes hand-in-hand with a shower radio. Can we not go 5-10 minutes (or perhaps longer) without music?
