5 Affordable Gift Ideas for Mom on Mother's Day

M.P. Drew
Some moms have all the luck on mother's day. Some lucky ones will receive gifts such as designer bags, shoes or clothes, or spa treatments, or those sparkling, beautiful stones - diamonds. Some moms will have dinner in a nice restaurant with the family and receive chocolates and roses. But let's face it, you give moms these kinds of presents because they're the norm and it doesn't take much sweating from you (well, maybe the diamonds will cause a sweat or two). There are a variety of ways to show your appreciation for your mother and they don't cost much. All they need is a little bit of time and some of your personal touch.

Crafts galore. Crafts are a great way to personalize gifts for your mom. You can visit any crafts store and get ideas or examples from a myriad of choices. You can put a picture of your mom on a pillow, or create a set of beaded earrings, necklaces or bracelets for her. If you think that crafts are too girly for you, try looking around the house. Perhaps some furniture is waiting to get refinished, or there's something in the house that needs fixing but your mom is unable to attend to it. This is a great opportunity for you to help her and show you care for her things as well.

The more the merrier. Gather your friends, neighbors and relatives and celebrate with them by throwing a surprise mother's day party for all these wonderful women in your lives. Ask people to bring their own food and drinks, so you all can save money. Also, be sure to have some mommy games included to make it a little bit more special. Our parties never go without karaoke and some choreographed dancing from the little ones. Mothers and grandmothers will beam with joy seeing that their offspring have hidden talents.

Spa and sparkling. Clean the house for mom! Do all the laundry. Prepare all the meals for the day. In other words, take care of her like how she takes care of you, even for only a day. After all these pampering, give her a spa like treatment in her very own bathroom with some candles and scented oils. Be sure you give this bathroom a real scrub though or that stain and mildew will kill any spa-like atmosphere.

Shout it out. Make an article for her or a poem. You don't need to be a very good writer to show your appreciation for her. Just write from your heart and remember all the amazing qualities she has. Write like there's no better mother in the world than her. Then publish it on the internet, so the whole world will know how lucky you are.

Digitize 'em. Make a dvd of her pictures and videos from when she was young until now. You can use Windows Movie Maker that comes with your Windows XP so you don't have to buy a video editing software. Just insert her photos and videos, her favorite music and even put in a narration, and voila! An instant movie that features her as star, now what mother wouldn't love that? Another digital marvel is a photo mosaic. I'm sure you've seen this in some movie posters. This is done by a photo editing software that combines hundreds of photos to make one amazing picture. Just follow the instructions but if it proves daunting for you, you can go to a photo shop so they can do it for you for a fee.

Your goal here is to give mom the best gift you can give. If she gives back a warmhearted, sincere and bright eyed "thank you" then your job is done.
