5 Bargain Vacation Alternatives for a Bad Economy

Neoavatara
Times are tough, but you still need to relax. But that doesn't mean you should deprive yourself. With the stresses of life and work, who needs a vacation now more than ever? Here are suggestions varying from downright cheap to slightly on the expensive side, all of which are relative bargains in this recession.

1. Road Trips

Road Trips are always a cheap alternative, especially for a multimember family. Heck, with gas prices less than $2.00 a gallon in many places around the country, driving is cheaper than ever. On top of that, because of the recession many resorts and amusement parks are considering big reductions in costs over the next few months.

Many, if not most people, live near a state or national park. For young children, this can be downright exciting. Pitch a tent, and rough it. Hiking, swimming, or just laying around...there is plenty of fun to be had. Not the outdoor type? Consider amusement parks, many have reduced their ticket prices this year. In the midwest, Cedar Point, Kings Island, or Six Flags Great America are within driving distance of most of the midwest. There are many similar attractions all over the country.

2. Florida

Florida can be a huge expedition, but this year it may be a relatively cheap alternative. First of all, for those that have to fly, pricing wars have decreased ticket prices to their lowest levels in years. Airlines such as Jetblue and AirTran have great deals going, and Southwest is always an excellent alternative. Additionally, Disney and Universal Studios are both running great deals for families this year. And if you visit on your birthday, you can actually get in for free at Disney! SeaWorld and others always have great deals going on as well.

3. Cruises

Cruises are at record lows for ticket prices. Cruises are not for everyone, but if you were considering going, this may be a great time. Many of the traditional websites for travel and cruises are running many deals right now.

4. Las Vegas

Again, the recession has hit the gamblers hard. And Casinos and hotels have responded with great deals. Airfares are at recent lows.

5. Hawaii

I know, Hawaii is the dream vacation; how can you consider it during a recession? That is exactly why you should consider it. There are huge deductions on airfares, for example. Tickets that cost $700-1000 last year now can be bought for $450 to $700. And there are excellent packages that give hotel rooms and condos for 25% off, or some that will give you one day free for every four you stay. These are deals that would be impossible any other time.

My only advice; don't let the recession stop your living. Stress will kill you, and a vacation may be the best way the rejevunate yourself for the long run.
