5 Beauty Must-Haves I Can't Live Without

ShawnTe Pierce

Whether you consider yourself a beauty maven or low-maintenance, there are probably a few beauty essentials you can't live without. These are items that you use frequently, if not each day. Chances are you stay stocked up in them. Personally, I feel a sense dread if I run out of any of my five beauty essentials. Find out why I can't live without these five beauty must-haves.

Baby Oil Baby's My Skin

Baby oil is made from mineral oil. Unfortunately, some people think mineral oil is evil -- well not exactly evil but not good for you either. In spite of this, baby oil is a cheap beauty product that I use as a part of my beauty regimen.

  • A few drops of baby oil in bath water softens hard water and helps prevent body washes and soaps from stripping moisture from my skin.
  • After showering, while my skin is still wet, I slather baby oil all over to seal in moisture. I pat my skin dry with a towel and finish with one of my scented body lotions. My skin stays soft all day.
  • Baby oil is also an inexpensive makeup remover. I primarily use it as an eye makeup remover because I wear long wearing, waterproof mascara and eye liner. If you have one of those hard to remove long-lasting lip colors, try putting baby oil on a cosmetic round or cotton ball and gently rub across lips to remove the lip color.

Noxzema Original Cleansing Cream Loves Me!

My old childhood friend and I, Noxzema, parted ways for many years. A few years back we became reacquainted again and are best friends! I not only use Noxzema for cleansing my face morning and night, but I also use it as a gentle cooling mask for my face and the bottoms of my feet. If your feet get dry and hot in the summer, I recommend a Noxzema foot facial.

Sheer Lip Gloss Does More than Just Color My Lips

At heart, I am a lipstick woman. I love the rich, creamy color it provides. However, sheer lip gloss is more functional as it provides quick and easy application and does not require the same precision lipstick does. My five-minute makeup routine includes sheer lip gloss serving as both lip and eye color. I love wearing it when I go out to eat because it does not leave a color imprint on my chin if I eat a burger and it is easy to reapply. No muss, no fuss.

Mascara Is the Makeup I Must Wear

I was one to wear mascara even if I wore no other makeup. It always makes my eyes pop! I have long lashes and mascara, regardless of the formula, makes my lashes look longer and thicker, as if I am wearing fake lashes.

As I've gotten older, mascara has become somewhat of a necessity for me. You see, I have a few white eyelashes and when I want to look my best I need to cover those bad boys up. So me out in public without mascara -- It's not going to happen often.

A Generational Love for Bobby Pins

One of things my mother always kept around were bobby pins. I would watch her secure her French twists and wigs using them. When I got older, I learned the value of this hair accessory and tool.

They can be used for many a hair need. As a styling tool, they hold curls in place while you curl hair with a curling iron, they secure a pin curl set, they can be used to secure Bantu knots and they can simply be used to help section off hair for styling. As a hair accessory, these little darlings can be placed strategically around the head to form a decorative headband as well as using glitter and jeweled bobby pins to create a tucked-behind-the-ear look.

These five beauty must-haves are essential to my personal beauty. While I am exaggerating when I claim I can't live without them, the truth is I don't want to be without them. Do you have any beauty items that you find essential?
