5 Benefits from Joining the American Seniors Association

If you are thinking of joining a group with a stated goal of working for the needs of senior citizens, consider looking at the American Seniors Association (ASA). While not as large and well known as AARP, it is laboring just as hard to make a difference for seniors. Although it is similar to AARP, it focuses on the social needs and interests of seniors emphasizing some areas that AARP does not.

American Seniors Association is extremely conservative.

Because AARP sometimes sides with liberals and sometimes with conservatives, those seniors who want to be consistently conservative should choose ASA for their membership. ASA links itself to the National Rifle Association, the Tea Party movement, and other very conservative Republican organizations. It also positions itself against most of the national leadership that comes from the Democratic party, including President Obama.

For those who like to have a voice speaking for their conservative positions, the ASA will get it done.

One glance at their website, www.americanseniors.org, will instantly acquaint you with most of their positions on current national issues. Even some issues that are not necessarily long-term political items will be addressed in the commentary on the website. You will not be left guessing about where the American Seniors Association stands on current events or political issues.

Like AARP, the ASA looks for ways to benefit seniors lifestyle.

While their connections and influence is not as extensive as the larger organization, the ASA does seem to be working to help seniors with various needs. With a relatively low membership cost, it probably is worth the cost of membership just to get the conservative news and public influence to seniors who are Republican conservatives.

The American Seniors Association has worked to gain prescription discounts.

Many senior citizens struggle to pay their prescription bills even with Medicare part D. The ASA has arranged to provide seniors with a discount card to help with prescription medications. The service is recognized nationally and can be a real asset to some seniors.

Some travel benefits are available through ASA.

American Seniors Association has very limited travel assistance compared to the AARP. For the most part, you should not expect at this time to use your ASA card to get widespread motel or hotel discounts. It does gain a few car rental discounts. Other travel assistance will be forthcoming as the association works to increase its influence on behalf of seniors.
