Cardiovascular Health
The amount of heart attacks has been on the rise for some time so it is important to have a healthy heart. Riding a bicycle is one of the best exercises for improving the cardiovascular system and that will help keep the heart healthy. A good cardiovascular work out is needed about three times a week at about 30 minutes per workout.
Joint Health
One of the most underrated benefits of riding a bicycle is how easy riding a bike is on the joints. Some exercisers will jog on surfaces that aren't friendly to their knees. Others will lift weights with bad form and possibly tear up their legs and arms. You're not just trying to get immediate health, you want health when you're old too but being harsh on your joints will make it difficult to get around when you're older. Riding a bicycle is more healthy than jogging or running but doesn't strain the joints at all.
Vitamin D
How can riding a bicycle lead to vitamin D? The sun. If you do all your exercising inside on a treadmill or lifting weights then you can gain health just by exercising outside. The body can generate vitamin D from the sun if you exercise outside and this little bit of Vitamin D can help to prevent prostate cancer, breast cancer and osteoporosis. Just be careful about getting too much sun because that can also lead to skin cancer.
Stress
Here is another great reason to use your bicycle as a form of exercising. It's fun. Walking on the treadmill, performing aerobics and lifting weights seem like chores that nobody wants to do. When exercise is fun it seems like a much easier task, that is why Wii Fit and Zumba have become popular. There is actually a health related reason that having fun is good too. More fun equals less stress. An exercise workout without stress is less likely to result in injuries because the body won't be as tight.
Public Health
Everyone is big on the environment in the world today so any exercise that is good for the environment is good for the health of the public. Riding a bicycle does not require driving a vehicle to go to the gym for a work out. Riding a bicycle does not require using electricity by plugging in any machinery. Bicycling just requires you and your bike. It's the most green form of exercise other than jogging outside.
