5 Best Cat Toys for the Spoiled Feline

Lindsey Russell
Want to spoil your cat and don't know where to start? Here are some of the best toys for the finicky cat.

1. Hollow plastic balls with bells inside.

These simple, inexpensive toys will keep your cat happy for hours. Warning: They like to hide them all over the house. I've found them behind the stove, the refrigerator, etc. One of the best things about this toy is that it promotes exercise. Many cats will chase them as dogs chase tennis balls.

2. Miniature cloth mice.

This is another great inexpensive toy! You can pick up a package of 3 or more for a buck or two. Cats love to hide them all around the house and carry them around in their mouth. It is great for indoor cats as it satisfies their hunting instincts without being let outdoors.

3. Tent.

Until this past Christmas season, I didn't even know that they made tents designed for cats. My boyfriend's Mom bought one for our cat, and he actually uses it. They are great for cats that love to hide and stow away their treasures. They will even sleep in it at night. Most are inexpensive and are completely washable.

4. Fishing pole toy with feathers on the end.

This is one of the greatest cat toys I've ever come across. It basically consists of a stick, the pole, with a thin leather "line" attached. At the end of the leather rope, a ball of feathers is attached. The idea is to move the ball of feathers in order for cats to "catch" it. My cat absolutely loves this toy and will even "attack" it when it is just sitting around. When you play with your cat, the cat will be sure to get plenty of exercise. If only it was so fun and easy for people to get exercise!

5. Specialty water dishes.

Cats may hate water, but they sure appear to be fascinated by it! While I wouldn't go so far as to purchase a water-purifying dish for my cat, there are water dishes that include fountains, as well as others that dispense water much like a water bottle for hamsters and gerbils. Cats love to watch the oxygen bottles. In fact, I've had problems with my cat knowing over the water container on my small humidifier. It is clear and the oxygen bubbles in the water container fascinate my cat. He continually knocks it over. Fortunately, the cat water bottles are inexpensive. Hopefully, he won't need to bother the humidifier anymore!

While all of the items mentioned above are great for the cat in your life, some of the best cat toys cost nothing. Milk cap rings and wads of crumpled paper are great, free cat toys. Either way, you don't have to spend much in order to have a happy, go-lucky cat. Remember, you can easily go overboard when it comes to cats; after all, they give you so much love in return. With the inexpensive items mentioned above, you can't go wrong.
