"When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth"
Viewers beware, when this film was nominated for an Oscar for visual effects in 1970 the standards were much lower. By today's standards the special effects in "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" will be pretty ugly. But at the time it was a good film about human existing simultaneously with dinosaurs.
"The Valley of Gwangi"
"The Valley of Gwangi" Is part western-part fantasy. It is about a group of cowboys that venture into the Forbidden Valley to retrieve a horse that has been stolen. The Forbidden Valley is believed to be cursed and the cowboys find out why when they discover the land inhabited by dinosaurs. One dinosaur in particular, a Tyrannosaurus Rex named Gwangi, chases after the cowboys.
"The Land that Time Forgot" (1975)
"The Land that Time Forgot" takes place during World War I. A British merchant ship is sunk by a German U-boat and the survivors of the ship are captured. Eventually the captives decided to rebel and take over the U-boat but during the struggle the boat's radio is destroyed. Now the boat is off course and running out of fuel so they stop at an uncharted land called Caprona. Little do they know that the land is covered with dinosaurs.
"The Land Before Time"
Let's just include the entire "Land Before Time" series in this slot because I don't want to waste the hours and receive the massive headache it would take to rank them all individually. The first "Land Before Time" is one of those sneaky classic children movies that just about everybody loved as a child but doesn't get the notoriety of the Disney films of that time or the Pixar movies of today.
"Jurassic Park"
"Jurassic Park" is a no-brainer for the best dinosaur film of all-time. "Jurassic Park" had action with some horror elements and a dash of humor (usually provided by Jeff Goldblum). Watch "Jurassic Park" today and it is still shocking how perfect the CGI was in that film even though it was made nearly 20 years ago.

Post a CommentOh, Godzilla, hast thou forsaken us... or after Raymond Burr and real special effects, did you wander back into the sea never to be seen or heard from again?
My dad took me to the movies when I was just 4 to see "The Land that Time Forgot." I can remember standing up in the seat and yelling, "It's quicksand!" ;) I had nightmares about dinosaurs for a couple of years after that. ;)
