5 Best Fast Food Breakfast Sandwiches

Kay Whittenhauer
A breakfast sandwich from the drive-through window can be one of morning's biggest treats! They're such a treat that I've been known to use fast food breakfast sandwiches as bribes. My son is a teenager now, and the promise of a drive-through breakfast on the way to school is just as effective now as it was when he was little.

Beside the obvious 'motivational' factor (yes, that's the politically correct word for 'bribe'), a fast food breakfast is quick, there's no set-up and clean-up time, and as a once-in-a-while treat it won't bust the budget. Here are the five best fast food breakfast sandwiches:

Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel from McDonald's. This is number one on my son's fast food breakfast sandwich list, and I can see why. The sandwich is pretty self-explanatory, except that it also has grilled onions. Dee-lish! It's a little on the greasy side, and a lot on the flavorful side- everything good fast food should be!

McDonald's Egg McMuffin. The Egg McMuffin is the quintessential breakfast sandwich. It's the fast food breakfast sandwich that started the whole fast food breakfast sandwich craze. The original is made with egg, Canadian bacon, and melted cheese on an English muffin. There's also a sausage McMuffin and a sausage McMuffin with egg. I think every breakfast sandwich has derived from the McMuffin, yet the McMuffin still holds its own for taste and popularity.

Tim Horton's Breakfast Sandwich. The Breakfast Sandwich is number two on Tim Horton's breakfast menu and you can basically order it however you want it- bagel or biscuit, sausage or bacon, cheese or no cheese, with a seasoned egg patty or without. I would recommend going for it and getting meat, cheese, and egg on a biscuit. I love McDonald's biscuit sandwiches, but I have to say the Tim Horton's breakfast sandwich gives Mickey D's a run for the money. Tim Horton's Breakfast Sandwiches are a bit more expensive, but they're a lot bigger. They're less greasy, the bacon is American style strip bacon, and the egg tastes better. Yum! Hats off to our neighbors to the north.

Ham, Egg, and Cheese Croissan'wich at Burger King. The two best things about the Croissan'wich are the Burger King version of a croissant and the fact that you can get it with ham. First, Burger King's croissants are like eating buttered air- who could say no? Secondly, it's pretty hard to get ham at a drive-through. So I totally recommend the Ham, Egg, and Cheese Croissan'wich. They're not very filling, so I actually have to recommend ordering two at time

Turkey, Bacon and Cheese on Flatbread from Dunkin' Donuts. Sounds like a totally weird thing to order for breakfast, right? That's what I thought until I had one! My son ordered this "for a change" and I'll tell you, it is a nice change for breakfast. Sometimes eggs are just a little too heavy, and sausage is just a little too greasy, so turkey, bacon, and cheese on flatbread is the perfect breakfast sandwich- not too heavy, not too light.

Whether it's a bribe for your kids or a treat for yourself, there's nothing like a fast food breakfast sandwich! Which one is your favorite?

I'm with you on this list. I was surprised that the Steak, Egg and Cheese was so good. I expected the steak to be tough, but it's tender. The Egg McMuffing is the old classic. The Burger King Croissan'wich are all very good: bacon, ham and sausage (definitely two at a time).

Yeah, it's hard to beat Mickey D's. The flatbread one sounds yummy as well. Good list!
