5 Best Health Sites

Sly Navreet
When addressing one's training routine, be it for becoming stronger, more attractive, more athletic, or whatever else may be intended, there is always the possibility that the resources available, resources of information, are not sufficient. You may be left with questions unanswered, and may become a victim of the misinformation rampant among gyms and fitness clubs.

With this handful of sites, you can avoid becoming prey to the predators in the fitness ocean, and become a strong, healthy fish. (Extended metaphors can become ridiculous, can't they?)

ExRx.com, "Exercise Prescription", is a site that contains numerous free online calculators, including metabolic calculators, one-rep max calculators, nutrient calculators, and more. Also on this site is a wealth of knowledge on almost any weight lifting exercise you can think of, including the Olympic lifts. It shows in detail how to perform the lift with proper technique, using an animation, so you won't get confused with funny-sounding instructions, like many other sites provide. For anyone looking at doing weightlifting, this is an excellent site with plenty of information on the different lifts, variations of the lifts, and training techniques.

NutritionData.com is an excellent site. It gives detailed descriptions of the amino acids present in different foods. Almost any food you can imagine is on this site. Upon selection of a food item, you are presented with a detailed nutritional profile, including the amino acids, different quantities of the different kinds of sugars and sugar alcohols present, omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, the level of inflammation the food may cause in the intestinal tract, the type of proteins, percentage of calories derived from protein, carbohydrate and fat, an approximation of how well the food will keep you full, what percentage of the food is water, and more. Going beyond, the site can also make recommendations for complimentary foods that have more of the amino acids and nutrients that the food you are looking at might be lacking in. This site is truly beneficial to anyone looking to take an in-depth approach to their dietary habits and learn exactly what's going into your body.

WHFoods.com is another awesome nutritional site. The full name of the site is "World's Healthiest Foods", and it catalogues juts that; the healthiest legumes, fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, and more. The site is archived and catalogued very well, allowing for easy access to the information you're looking for. And even better, you won't find exotic, wild foods that there's no way you'll be able to get your hands on. At WHFoods.com, you will find information on foods that can be found in virtually any supermarket. With a single click of the mouse you can have access to page after page of information on any of the listed foods, including information on research, studies, nutrient profile, and if the food has any properties that could be useful for those taking a more holistic approach to medicine. Combined with NutritionData.com, WHFoods.com provides an absolutely astounding encyclopedia of knowledge at your fingertips, for free, and will invariably prove to be a beneficial read for anyone looking to get their diet on track.

WestonAPrice.org is truly a revolutionary site, blasting many of the commonly held views about all nutrition and foods into oblivion. Weston A. Price was a dentist who traveled around and studied the diets of many different indigenous peoples, and learned surprising things about the human diet and the evolution thereof. A very interesting site, and some of the information might surprise you. It exposes a lot of things, including "bad fats" and what cholesterol is, exactly. Be sure and check this one out.

CSPINET.org is the Center for Science in the Public Interest. It contains a treasure trove of information on things you should be aware of as a consumer--pesticides, dangerous additives, dangerous fruit waxes, and more. It can be a real eye-opened for those who aren't yet aware of the bizarre and unhealthy things that go on behind the scenes to produce a lot of the things that you yourself might be eating.

These five sites are my pantheon of nutritional and lifting knowledge, giving me everything I need to know to be a strong and healthy fish. I have them bookmarked, and check them regularly. Hopefully they will help you as much as they've helped me.
