Five of the Best Kids' Commercials from the 1970s No. One: Lite-Brite Commercial
It's fascinating to see the colorful creations with this toy as shown on TV. I always enjoyed the cheerfulness of the ad spots, even though when I had the chance to play with one, I didn't stay interested too long, since I'd rather see others use their artistic talents to create the bright visuals.
Five of the Best Kids' Commercials from the 1970s No. Two: Life Cereal Commercial with Mikey
This was one of the most memorable marketing ploys to get a kid, Mikey, who supposedly hates everything, to instantly take to a cereal marketed as being healthier to eat. I could never understand what was being totally said by the doubting kids, though the exclamation "He likes it!" still rings out as Mikey ate from a glass cereal bowl. For the first time, I could see the milk at the bottom of the bowl, for I only ate out of plastic bowls. I liked eating this cereal, for it had a unique taste.
Five of the Best Kids' Commercials from the 1970s No. Three: Oscar Mayer Sing Along Commercials
I watched this sing along commercial with the little boy a zillion times, as it aired every time one turned around. This spot was so influential that I was disappointed if my mother wouldn't get me this brand of bologna. She often quipped, "It's too expensive, and all you're paying for is the brand name." But when it was on sale, I feasted on this stuff, adding mayo, mustard, lettuce, and American cheese for one great snack before or after bedtime.
Five of the Best Kids' Commercials from the 1970s No. Four: Big Wheel Commercial
The adjustable seat of a Big Wheel were the thing I noticed over anything else, including the big front wheel. As small kids, it was the mode of transport to have in my neighborhood before we got our first bicycles. On dirt, the Big Wheels would spin out pretty good, but the colorful tassels never seemed to stay on for long.
Five of the Best Kids' Commercials from the 1970s No. Five: Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry Cereal Ads
I loved seeing the horror characters advertise their utterly sweet cereal (I wonder if Mikey liked this?) in such a friendly way. This cereal was something I always bugged my mom and grandma to get me when they went shopping. "I want Boo Berry Cereal" was my mantra. I recall the sweet berry flavor that lingered in my taste buds and the toy surprises, which were immediately dug out with my grubby hands before consuming any actual cereal.
