5 Best New Year's Toasts

5 Great Toasts for the New Year Using a Very Unusual Source

Terri Rawls
As is tradition, thousands of toast will be made as we say goodbye to the passing year and welcome in the hopes of a new year. Many of the well wishes will come from traditional Irish toasts such as "In the New Year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship but never in want." Others will recite a poem or borrow a famous quote like "May you live all the days of your life' or "Dance as if no one is watching, sing as if no one were listening and live everyday as if it were your last."

This year, as you prepare to take your stand, how about looking beyond the typical sources and consider sharing something from the late Theodor Seuss Gisel? What's that? You say you don't know who that is? Let me introduce you to five of my favorite quotes from Mr. Gisel; better known as Dr. Seuss. All five would make a perfectly dazzling New Year's toast. See if you don't agree.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose."

"I've heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. My troubles are going to have troubles with me."

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

"You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so...get on your way!"

"How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flown. How did it get so late so soon?"

Dr. Suess was extremely wise, I have to agree. Some of his books (The Lorax; The Butter Battle Book; etc) still make me cry, they are so telling. :)

Love it Terri. I believe my New Years Toast is going to be "You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so...get on your way!" Because I know I will have my great place someday before long and I am so excited.
