5 Big Reasons Why This Republican is Going to Vote Democratic

Is Hillary Our Best Choice?

shane durbec
1. George W. Bush.

What were we thinking? Do you know this guy still thinks he will go down in history as one of the best president ever?! The more we hear about all of the intelligence we had, all of the secret orders during his presidency, the lies he has told his own citizens. I feel sick when I think of how much this person has destroyed our nation in such a short period of time. It could take 50 years or more to repair the last eight on the global stage. Thousands of soldiers have died securing a nation that we have no business being in. I can't believe I believed what they were telling us about Iraq in the beginning. If you are a republican congress person and you still believe in funding operations in Iraq you should have to serve a tour over there.

2. Rudy Gulianni

Let's not make the same mistake. More intelligent than W. Better response time and more substance to responses than W. That doesn't mean he'll have good decision making or judgment if he becomes "the decision maker". This man has more skeletons in his closet than most covert spies in best selling novels. Not a person to be trusted. There are major problems with his past and our future needs a leader who can be diplomatic, reasonable, and intelligent all at the same time. Mr. Gulliani is well known for having extremely tough policies that helped clean up New York during his tenure. America does not need another administration of tough talk.

3. Our Policies are horrible

Pretend that jobs are growing. Pretend that we are winning some fantasy war on terrorists that we can't identify and don't know where in the world they are - hey but we're winning. Pretend that our economy is the best its been in a long time. Pretend like Big business doesn't have any interest in whether or not oil prices keep going up. Pretend that many more Americans are better off now that they have lost their son or daughter in Iraq and their job was shipped off to another country because Big Business thought it was a great idea. Pretend that less governmental control equals better rights and benefits for people not self-employed or wealthy.

4. I want my government to be held responsible.

I want my government to represent some of my ideas and values. I want some kind of benefit out of my government governing our country into a successful economy, a successful relationship with other major world powers, and accountability for poor decision making. I want to live in a moral country. I want to be the beacon of hope for the world like we used to be. I want my children to have a country when they retire. I am very concerned about our go-it alone approach.

5. Hillary Clinton

This has got to be the strangest article I have ever written. I can't believe I am announcing this to the world. I think Hillary Clinton might just be our only choice for salvation. She's smart, she's able, she's got the most experience in dealing with world leaders, she has real experience in politics, and she stuck with Bill Clinton's infidelity when anyone else would have ran. She has the ability to make a commitment without being irrational. She has far more charm now that she has aged a bit than she did when President Clinton was in office. I believe she would do a fine job representing our country on the world stage. I believe she cares about our country. I believe that she has studied politics and the process enough to actually be the most effective for our country. I believe she is a leader that has guts, can be tough, and also has a keen negotiating skill. There is no one in the race on either side that even measures up to this woman. If left with the current choices, the only obvious choice is Hillary.

I believe in the Republican way, but in order for the republicans to be faithful to their creed, they must have a faithful leader and we do not have such a leader at this time. Not in office, and not in the running. Therefore I must vote democratic to save my republican soul.

    Excellent points and I agree!

I wish I had one of those count down clocks for W to be out of the White House.

Everyone has an opinion, especially as we are a free country, though I find it difficult to comprehend how anyone could think Hillary is even minutely presidential material, sticking with an idiot like Bill is the problem, no woman in her right mind would stick with a man who had whatever you want to call it in the oval office, it is insanity on top of insanity...

Hope everyone has a good day...

I appreciate your candor in this article, save one statement; "I think Hillary Clinton might just be our only choice for salvation." Lest you've forgotten, Jesus, by way of his father, is the only one who will provide true savation.

Right Marquis, because the terrorists are after you. When was the last time you saw a Islamic extremist committing an act of terror there in Detroit? That's CLEARLY the biggest issue affecting Detroit, right? Not gangs or job outsourcing. The motor-city is doing great and driving the country's car industry right? OBVIOUSLY terrorists are the number 1 issue for the United States. Because we we're occasionally targeted on our land. Good for you Shane, for noticing that there are far more pressing issues that the current government isn't acknowledging. Like our terrible economy, the loss of any value to the US dollar, and the suffering of hard-working every-day Americans who aren't protected by Bush's war to protect his oversea's oil interests.

Hi Shane, I really admire you for writing this article. I am so sick of all this REpublican/Democratici division; thanks for being so honest...Ilene

Glad to have you, Shane as Jack said. It's going to take a lot of work to undo the horrors that have been done to us and the world view of the U.S. but it can be done - for the sake of the future generations it has to be done.

I heard a great line (depends on your age) "Nixon is beginning to look good to me!"

I really enjoyed your article. I often wonder what Republicans or those who voted for Bush are thinking now - so thanks for sharing:)

(continued)..."The Republican party's candidates? Just an embarrassment." (Great line, Roxanne!) If you do vote Democratic, I'll even let you wear my button that says, "Friends don't let Friends Vote Republican!" (or) failing that, the one with a big ol' picture of "W" on it (looking as smirky and stupid as usual), with the two words, "Good riddance!" Welcome aboard!

Well, Shane...you have definitely hit on some common chords that most voters are experiencing this season. Out here in Iowa, with the caucus vote coming up in 5 days or so, the smart money, however, is on an Edwards/Obama ticket for the Democrats. I would guess that Romney will win out for the Republicans, and one other AC producer on here makes a persuasive case for him selecting Kay Bailey Hutchinson as his running mate, but I doubt that will happen, myself. The problem with "Hillary for President" is that her "Q-factor," as it is known, is lower than the belly of the proverbial snake. People just don't "like" her, and, in addition, many are sick of the concept of passing the Presidency down from father to son or husband to wife, like the Kings and Queens of yore. Personally, I agree with Roxanne Conlin of Iowa (check her out on google: impressive woman), who, in introducing Edwards the other night said, "The Democratic party this year has an embarrassment of riches in its candidates

Glad to have you, Shane. If enough thinking Republicans vote Democratic in '08, we can right the wrongs of the past seven years. The Republican pool is indeed dry this election year.
