5 Books that Need a Zombie Rewrite

Tammy Lee Morris
The cult classic "Pride, Prejudice and Zombies" made us rethink classic literature in light of a zombie apocalypse. Why stop at Jane Austen, though? Here are five books that would be awesome with the special treatment of a zombie rewrite.

"Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer
We got sparkly vampires in the "Twilight Saga" but how about sparkly zombies? "Twilight" needs a fresh infusion of zombie blood to give the constipated vampires and pained teenagers some serious conflict. A boyfriend dumping you and a gang of buff werewolves would only be more interesting with the addition of the flesheating undead. Better yet, how about Bella gets bitten by a zombie, contracts the zombie virus and Edward spends the rest of the series pining for his decomposing girlfriend. Since Bella is so clumsy, as her flesh decays we can be treated to lots of laughs and giggles as she trips and breaks her zombie arm off. Woohoo!

Working title: "Twilight Fills Me With Undead Dread"

"The Shining" by Stephen King
This was one of the scariest books I ever read and even thinking about the book still creeps me out. Add a few zombies to the trapped, whacked out Torrence family and you've got great entertainment. Zombies in the snow! What fun--they can make snow zombies!

Working title: "A Light is Shining Through a Hole In Your Head"

"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
Atticus Finch kicks zombie ass instead of rabid dogs. Where can you go wrong?

Working title: "To Really, Really Kill a Zombie Dead for Good"

"The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton
This was one of my favorite books as I grew up and I think I read my copy so many times I wore it out. Instead of the Socs and the Greasers, it could be the Deads and the Greasers. (Cue dramatic voice): Two gangs. One from the hoards of the undead and one from the wrong side of the tracks clash in a horrific rumble without songs or choreography. This aint "West Side Story," it's. . .

Working title: "The Living Outsiders vs. the Rotting Dead"

"Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Okay, think about it: How cool would it be to read about little Laura Ingalls and her family killing zombies on the prairie as they make their mark on the land? Seriously.

Working title: "Little Zombies on the Prairie"

The next time you pick up a great book to read, allow your imagination to roam as you notice ways to incorporate zombies into the plot. I can guarantee it will make it even more interesting.
