5 Celebrities Dogged by Rumors of Being Gay

Stephanie Modkins
Unfortunately, if you want to achieve star power these days, you have to grow a thick skin. The American public enjoys talking about the private lives of their favorite high profile people, especially who they are holding close at night. Below are 5 celebrities dogged by rumors of being gay. No matter how much they deny liking the same sex, the average Joe refuses to believe them.

Oprah
This media mogul has capitalized big time on her gift of gab. Yet, no matter how much she talks, a few of her fans speculate as to why she is so close to gal pal Gayle King. Oprah works hard and plays hard with Gayle. They are so close that they often vacation together like a couple. Naturally, the queen of talk shows denies any monkey business behind close doors with her BFF. Are they suspect? Probably not. But, we all know that when Oprah dies, her loyal friend Gayle will receive a big chunk of her fortune and finally get the chance to really tell us how the mighty "O" behaved off camera.

Tom Cruise
Maybe his small stature (5"5) or pretty boy looks make Tom Cruise appear suspect because he has been dogged by rumors of being gay for over a decade. He is the butt of many jokes about Hollywood men who hide in the proverbial closet. Until a few years ago, this big screen draw was also a tabloid fixture regarding his sexuality. Consequently, a few well-delivered lawsuits stopped a lot of the noise. Now, his marriage to actress Katie Holmes is the main focus of gossip gurus. The whispers about Tom Cruise and other men have slowed down . . . although not completely gone. They probably will stop one day when he leaves show business for good and is no longer relevant to pop culture.

Queen Latifah
When was the last time you've seen Queen Latifah on a date with a man? This question and her close relationship with personal trainer/friend Jeanette Jenkins are why most people believe she's gay. In 2010, The Advocate, a gay and lesbian magazine, wrote how this star had purchased a home with Ms. Jenkins and both of these ladies names were on the deed. Since this type of purchase is unusual amongst friends, The Advocate saw this act as a sign that the queen might actually be a king. In this case, they may be right, but who cares. Enough of Queen Latifah's fans still see her as a leading lady who often plays in romantic comedies with urban sex symbols like LL Cool J and Common. Her roles are the perfect guise for a secret life.

Nicki Minaj
On several blogs, Kool-Aid wig wearing Nicki Minaj has been paired up with many of her peers. She's often said to be one of the concubines of rapper Drake or Lil' Wayne. There was even a rumor that she married one of them a few months ago. Surprisingly, most of her fans did not believe the hype. Why? Ms. Minaj is a celebrity dogged by rumors of being gay. No one really can believe she has a regular guy - unless the story includes a break-up or infidelity. Maybe her plight just goes with the territory of being a well-known artist. (Ask Alicia Keyes.) Either way, the identity of the guy or gal that actually keeps this woman company at night is all over the place.

Alex Rodriguez
Sorry sports fanatics, but Alex Rodriguez has been called more than an MVP throughout the years. This guy's colorful lips, frosted hair and yen for masculine women have raised a few eyebrows throughout the years. No matter how many strip joints he goes to or relationships he has with boyish, celebrity blonds can squelch the quiet whispers about his sexuality. Nevertheless, he does not seem to care. Alex Rodriguez continues to live life out loud despite what the tabloids report about him.

These five celebrities have been dogged by rumors of being guy for a while. Does their sexual preference really matter? Well, the answer depends on who you ask. Either way, they are some of the top people in their field, and, as a result, get lots of attention - even unwanted attention - for their talent.

I haven't heard these rumors, and I'm glad of it... I'd rather leave these poor celebrities their privacy.
