Planes, Trains & Automobiles -Rent this movie at the local library or if expenses allow it is fairly cheap to buy. It is a classic movie that came out in 1987 and is quite cheap and sometimes can even be found used. Some families already enjoy this as apart of their families traditional Thanksgiving celebrations. It is about two very different people (played by Steve Martin and John Candy) who become inseparable and have to work together to get home for Thanksgiving after a blizzard grounds their plane. It's a hilarious Thanksgiving holiday movie that will keep the family laughing at all the misadventures of these two characters as they attempt to make their way home for the holiday.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade- The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City is watched by millions every year and is free to watch in the morning. This would be a good way to occupy the families Thanksgiving morning while having an easily prepared breakfast such as cinnamon rolls.
Thanksgiving Tablecloth- Create memories that will be preserved on a Tablecloth that can be passed down for future generations to cherish. Every year at Thanksgiving use the solid color tablecloth and have the family, and guests sign, date, and write what they are thankful for on the cloth using a permanent fabric marker.
Thanksgiving Box, Jar, or Journal- There are different methods to use this idea, but all are intended to remind everyone to be thankful. Having an attitude of gratitude on Thanksgiving Day will spill over into everyday life after this special holiday celebration. Some have family members write what they are thankful for on slips of paper a month or so before Thanksgiving and put it in the box or jar. When the holiday final arrives, everyone takes turns pulling out a few and reading them aloud. Other families use the box, jar, or journal in a similar fashion to the Thanksgiving tablecloth by having everyone write what they are thankful for on Thanksgiving Day and reminiscing over what they were thankful for from years past. No matter the method chose this is a cheap and easy Thanksgiving tradition that can be started this year.
Christmas Movies- Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday season and what better way to get in the mood for the upcoming Christmas holiday than to watch some classic Christmas movies. A cheap Thanksgiving tradition that can bring the family together. Classic Christmas movies such as National Lampoons Christmas Vacation will have everyone laughing and having a good time.
