5 Cheap and Edible Christmas Gifts Under $20

Give the Gift of Basic Human Needs This Christmas

Jessie Kay
Edible Christmas gifts are always a hit. Who doesn't like food? We're all human--we have to eat! Unfortunately, tasty edible Christmas gifts usually means elaborate fruit arrangements, costly Meat-of-The-Month clubs, and gourmet chocolates--all of which are very expensive. And on the cheap side, it means one thing: Stale fruitcake so heavy it needs to be airlifted via crane to get it home. Don't fret! Edible Christmas gifts can be inexpensive and tasty. Here are five ideas for edible Christmas gifts under $20.

Cheap Edible Christmas Gifts - Popcorn Tins: A cliché Christmas gift? Most definitely. But secretly, everyone wants one, they just won't admit it. Because popcorn tin popcorn is wicked good. You can find these tins everywhere, from Kohls to your local grocery store, usually for around $10. Just look for the giant pyramid display stacked to the ceiling with metal buckets decorated in cheesy Santa motifs or awkward religious scenes. Doesn't matter which design you chose because inside that tacky tin awaits popped pleasure! Cheddar, butter, and caramel popcorn flavored popcorn lurk inside, separated by a cardboard partition. Yum.

Edible Christmas Gifts - Cheap Candy:
Buying candy for a Christmas gift doesn't mean you need to visit a chocolatier to make the recipient happy. After all, for the price of one gourmet truffle, you can buy a 1lb bag of Hershey's Kisses wrapped in green & red decorative holiday foils! M&M's, Russell Stovers, giant Hershey bars - just visit Target and check out the Christmas candy section and you'll see plenty of inexpensive candy choices, all with festive red and green wrapper designs. If you feel really ambitious, you could buy a knit stocking and fill it up with a variety of wrapped fun-size candy bars!

Cheap Edible Christmas Gifts - Coffee Gift Baskets
Many coffee shops, including Starbucks and Caribou have gift baskets in all price ranges. This season, Caribou Coffee has several gift baskets for $19.99 including sampler sets and full pound coffee/travel mug sets.

Cheap Edible Christmas Gifts - Homemade Goodies
Homemade Christmas treats are a great idea for edible Christmas gifts and you're only paying for the cost of ingredients and your time (and the electricity and gas cost involved, but let's not get that technical!). Chocolate chip cookies, brownies, sugar cookies, cakes -everyone loves Christmas treats! Better yet, do all of your holiday baking on the same day and then freeze the edible Christmas gifts for later.

Cheap Edible Christmas Gifts - Hot Chocolate Gift Sets: Hot Chocolate gift sets typically contain a large, well-made ceramic coffee mug and a few packets of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate won't last long, but the mugs are usually high quality. I received one of these hot chocolate gift sets from a job I had eight years ago and I still use the mug to this day! You can usually find these sets at Target, Wal-Mart, a grocery store. Here's a website selling a personalized mug with hot chocolate for only $11.95.

While most edible Christmas gifts aren't very nutritionally sound, everyone enjoys a sweet treat during the holidays. You can't go wrong with an edible Christmas gift-especially one that won't have you filing for bankruptcy!
