5 College Football Predictions

My Attempt to Either Look Really Smart or Really, Really Dumb

Caleb Rule
Every sports expert this year has been made to look stupid at some point or another. I promise you that. What I can also promise is that the following five picks are all mine; I've published them on my sports blog (www.sportingnews.com/blog/wassup471) and I truly believe these will happen. What I CAN'T promise is that I'm remotely close to being right!

So here they are: My (probably futile) attempt at being the expert!

1.)Kentucky wins the SEC East.Tennessee will "upset" South Carolina, giving UK a destiny the control, which will happen when that passing game demolishes my beloved Vol secondary and punishes an up-and-down Georgia squad.

This is extremely possible, given SC hasn't been too dominant on either side of the ball, and Kentucky has suddenly found a defense. Of course, the real question is, how will that D fare against the Tim Tebow factor?

2.)Nate Longshore proves Cal's loss was a fluke, when the Golden Bears run the table and beat USC/Oregon/Arizona State. And DeShaun Foster shows he's the next Devon Hester in the process.

I bet the Foster prediction is money, but Cal winning against USC is no gimme. As Greenberg pointed out, USC may struggle against the crappy opponents, but they haven't lost to a ranked team in a long time.

3.)Missouri gets revenge on Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, spoiling the Sooners' return to the National Championship game.

Hey, if Kansas did it a few years ago, why can't the Tigers? Their first match-up was a good one, with OU winning 41-31. But don't underestimate Missouri. They can make the necessary adjustments. Of course, Oklahoma has to do their part, and Texas Tech's high-octane offense may put the secondary to shame really soon.

4.)South Florida loses once...but still manages to win the Big East thanks to its tiebreaker over West Virginia.

I can see it happening. Louisville is just playing spoiler now, and Cincinnati was exposed a bit against the Cardnials. WVU can run the table, but needs 2 losses by USF to steal the Big East crown. Ain't happenin'.

5.)Boston College loses once...and then blows out the rest of the ACC with a good, balanced offensive attack and a decent enough defense.

This could make me look really bad. Nobody knows too much about BC, because they haven't been too battle-tested. And VT is on the rise. But we'll see soon enough...

And so there you have it, my attempt and looking smart when I'm probably setting myself up for pie in the face. Oh well. I promise I'll be watching as much football as possible on Saturdays, and if it's nearly as entertaining as this season has been so far, I will be one happy fan in general. But more so if my Volunteers win the SEC.

Another note: Kansas state, not Kansas, took OU down in the Big 12 championship game a few years back. My mistake, thanks to Justin Parrish for pointing that out!

Note: When I typed "Greenberg pointed out" in the section about Cal, I was referring to an article Steve Greenberg wrote on sportingnews.com. Sorry for any confusion!
