Tired of the long hot days? You can only go out for ice cream so often. When it gets hot even when you are just hanging around the pool it is time to do something about the heat.
So, how about a few new ideas to help you stay cool in the summer heat?
Homemade fruit pops
All you need to make this cool, healthy treat are some popsicle molds, sliced fruit, and a little CapriSun to freeze it all together.
Fill popsicle cups with fresh cut fruit like strawberries, kiwis, pineapples, peaches, and grapes. Top off the cup with CapriSun and pop in the freezer until frozen.
Enjoy the sweet, healthy break from the heat.
Cold fruit shish-ka-bobs
No CapriSun or popsicle molds? Make another cool, fruity snack. Use cold, fresh blueberries, raspberries, pineapple chunks, and strawberry slices for a similar cool, healthy treat. Be sure to use cold refrigerated fruit or even pop your fruity shish-ka-bobs in the freezer to be sure they are well chilled before serving.
Fun and fancy ice cream sandwiches
Ice cream sandwiches are always a welcome treat on a hot day, but why not let the kids take the ice cream sandwich experience to an all new level. Pull out all your bottles of sprinkles and candy confetti and let loose with sprinkles along the edges of the sandwich. How about chocolate sprinkles on top?
So much fun!
Cool, cool melons
Melons are cool and juicy anyway. Why not cut them into wedges, shove a popsicle stick through the rind and make another fruity, frozen treat? This works especially well with watermelon. Use honeydew or cantaloupe by cutting the melon into small chunks and skewering two or three on a popsicle stick.
Remember Jello
Like the commercial says, "There's always room for Jello." Don't forget that this old standby can make a sweet summer treat. Skip the pre-made cups of Jello and grab a box of your favorite flavor. Make a colorful parfait by alternating layers of congealed Jello with light and luscious Cool Whip.
