5 Difficult Final Boss Fights in Video Games

Jennifer Amlie
In video games, the final boss is usually the most difficult fight. It's a great feeling when you've been through a particularly hard boss fight and beat the game. While everyone's opinion differs on what the hardest final boss is, there are ones that stand out in my mind for being challenging. These are my picks for five difficult final boss fights.

Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat II and 3
After defeating Shang Tsung and Kintaro, players have to contend with Shao Kahn. Shao Kahn is the ruler of the Outworld, knows dark magic, and has the ability to consume souls. With moves like charging spikes where he rams his opponent, Shao Kahn can be frustrating to beat. In Mortal Kombat 3, he can use his sledgehammer, causing his enemies to fly backwards and lose about half of their health. In the early Mortal Kombat games, the final boss was always difficult and challenging.

Sepitroth in Final Fantasy VII
The final boss of Final Fantasy VII has made numerous "best villain" lists. The first part of the battle is with Bizarro Sepithroth, who has very strong magical account from his limbs. Fortunately, the arms have low HP and can be defeated rather easily. The second part of the final battle is with Safer-Sepitroth, his ultimate form. During this fight he uses an attack called Heartless Angel which makes your character's party HP reduce to 1. Sepitroth is a difficult boss, especially if your party is unprepared to take him on. It's best to be a high level of HP to get ready for this long battle.

Ganon in Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
The final battle of Ocarina of Time is long. First, you find Ganondorf playing the organ and Princess Zelda is imprisoned close by. Then the triforce pieces light up and he moves to the center of the room. The floor starts to give way and Link needs to hug the walls. Ganondorf starts hurling lightening bolts at Link. You need to play baseball and swing the sword at the right time to throw them back. This starts out slow, but gets faster and faster. The floor also keeps falling out if you move around too much. The battle doesn't end there as the castle begins to crumble and Link needs to get Zelda out. There is a timer you need to watch as well. After you escape and think the final boss in done, Ganondorf comes back as the giant Ganon. Once again, you need to finish him off. This boss battle is extremely long, tough, and a real challenge.

Tabuu in Super Smash Bros Brawl
This final boss is located in the Starship Emissary level. The fight with this being is surprisingly difficult. His moves include ghost projection, bullet rain, lasers, and off waves. Ghost projection is when Tabuu creates images of himself that explode. Off waves has him using his wings to create a shock waves. Tabuu has a long list of cheap, instant kill moves to use on your character. Dodging these attacks requires near perfect timing and patience.

Nemesis in Resident Evil 3
"STARS!!!" Nemesis screams this as he follows Jill and Carlos through the game. Nemesis was an experiment programmed by the Umbrella Corporation to kill the STARS team. As you play Resident Evil 3, Nemesis seems to be everywhere, in sub boss fights, and in random encounters through the city. He even uses weapons and mutates to be able to attack with tentacles. Since Nemesis is always following you around, he is constant threat. Every time you hear his battle cry, it is terrifying. By the end of the game, Nemesis is one hard boss to beat.

The difficulty of the final boss can be different for everyone. Sometimes walking into the battle unprepared or thinking it will be easy is the hardest obstacle to over come. Some battles are so long with many different parts, the hardest thing to do is hanging on until the end. Even the most difficult final boss can be beaten with strategy, patience, and work.

Excellent list! It's becoming more and more obvious that I should not play video games - I had a hard time with Ursula on Kingdom Hearts! *rotfl*

Tabuu was a major pain. Almost all fighting game bosses are though, I'm having trouble thinking of one that isn't soul crushingly cheap
