5 DIY Halloween Costumes for Kids

Nathan Gubanche
As we all know kids Halloween costumes are expensive. Having four children and 2 step sons of my own I have had my fair share of Halloweens and not a lot of money. I do admit I have bought quite a few costumes. But when I haven't had the money we had to resort to making them with stuff around the house. Here are my top five favorites that I have used for my children.

Hunter

What we did to achieve this look was to use some of my camouflage hunting gear. Dress the child up in the camouflage clothing; put some camouflage face paint on the child. Maybe accent this look with a toy gun or toy knife. You can also make this an army guy or girl.

Hobo

This one can be done a lot of different ways; we used some old baggy clothes, stick, and a handkerchief. All we did for the hobo look was dress my child in baggy dirty looking clothes, and dirty his face up with some dirt from outside, be care full not to get it in their eyes. Then we got a stick from outside tied a handkerchief around the end of it, filling it with clothes.

The Leftover

This idea my daughter got from the movie Casper. She thought it was funny and asked me to do it so this is how we achieved this look. All we did was take some tin foil wrapped it all around her found some of the dogs toys that looked like pieces of meat, and had them sticking out the ends. She really enjoyed it and it was a very cheap and easy Halloween costume that year.

The Mummy

This one is a classic and can be achieved fairly easily, all you need is some ace bandages, if you have kids you will probably have quite a few around the house. All we did was wrap my son in ace bandages securing them a few inches from the end to leave them hanging.

Gothic

This day and age most younger girls have a lot of black outfits and black make-up. All my daughter did was dress in her black shirt, and pants, painted her nails black added some dark make-up to her face and she went out. Her and her friends all did this that year.

These may seem like some lame ideas but my kids really enjoyed them and that's what really counts is that your child is happy. Hopefully this will help give you some ideas for this year's Halloween costume.
