These DIY home improvement projects will make your home a better place in no time at all. In fact, it may take you longer to shop for the items than it will to install them and make the changes.
Replace Switch Plates
One of the least expensive ways to add a touch of color, design or just a hint of newness to a room is to replace light switch wall plates. The wall plates might be old, discolored, marked with paint, or they might not match.
Replacing wall plates is on simple home improvement job that anyone, even those who are not handy, can do. Select from inexpensive matching switch plates, or find decorative wall plate styles that match your existing home decor.
While you're at it, you may also want to match any showing outlet plates as well.
Install Bracketless Shelves
Bracketless shelves can be added to any room in the house. Need a place for some books, photos, vases or candles? Add to the functionality of your walls when you install bracketless shelves. Get creative add more than one on a wall, in an interesting layout.
Add Storage Hooks
There are so many places in the house where storage hooks can be added. Organize cabinets with small storage hooks, for small kitchen items. Also add more decorative storage hooks in other places for hats, backpacks, coats, and whatever else is cluttering up the floor and flat surfaces in your house.
Add Some Lighting
Is there a room in your house that is just too dark? Or maybe the corner of a room needs some extra light. Add some extra lighting to any room with some modern track lighting.
Install a Ceiling Fan
Even though the Trading Spaces designers love to remove ceiling fans, occasionally they come to their senses and add one to a room. A ceiling fan can replace a ceiling light. The ceiling fan is an easy way to circulate air in a room, any time of year, and in any temperature. A ceiling fan also adds a personal touch to the one place that home decor can't reach: the ceiling.
Installing a ceiling fan can be done without much hassle when you turn off the electric first, and follow the directions in the box. In less than an hour you can relax and enjoy new ceiling fan.
While this is the most expensive home improvement project on the list, a ceiling fan for under $50 can be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot.
