So let's get started with dog tricks 1 through 5.
Day 1. Sit - I'm going to tell you this once and only once, if you're going to be successful at training your doggy to do new dog tricks than your going to have to "Become the Doggy". Let's start with trick number one, teaching your dog to sit. Okay, with your dog in front of you look at him and say "Lassie Sit". Of course you will want to use your dog's name and not Lassie. Now the first response you will probably get from your doggy is a slight head nod to the right or left, don't worry this is normal. Let's move on. Now "Become the Doggy", get down on all fours and show your doggy exactly how to sit. Make sure you use perfect form. Stand up, and repeat the process for your doggy three times. Now, physically show your doggy out to sit, putting your hand on his bottom and push it down to the floor or ground. It's very important that you repeat the command "Lassie sit" as you work your doggy into the position.
Day 2. Rollover - Okay, for this trick, make sure your doggy is paying close attention. Look him in the eyes and tell him to "Rollover Lassie". Once again, he will give you that weird look and move his head from right to left, remember this is normal. You get down on all fours and repeat the command to your doggy "Rollover Lassie" and completely rollover and get back up on all fours, complete this process three times. Now tell your doggy to rollover as you push him slowly to the floor. When your doggy is lying on the floor, take your hands and simply rolling him over real fast say "Rollover Lassie".
Day 3. Dance - This trick is a little more difficult. Once again make sure your doggy is paying close attention. Give your doggy the command "Dance Lassie", you will get the same look from your doggy I've described in the previous tricks. Standing up, then left your arms up towards your face and let your hands relax... just let them hang. Now while saying the command "Dance Lassie" over and over start dancing in a circle. Your doggy will think this is a little weird but don't let that stop you. Continue this demonstration to your doggy until you are dizzy but haven't fallen down. Take a rest and then repeat the same steps only this time hold your doggies front paws in your hands, your doggy will now be your dance partner as you are repeating the command "Dance Lassie" over and over. Teach your doggy to balance on two paws by himself.
Day 4. Fetch the ball - okay, it's best to do this trick at your public park. Take a tennis ball with you. Now look at your doggy and give the command "Fetch the Ball Lassie" and throw the ball at least 75 to 100 feet. Your doggy will probably just stand there and stare at you, don't let this worry you... it is normal. Now take off running after the ball and repeat the command to your doggy "Fetch the Ball Lassie". When you get about 15 feet from the ball get down on all fours and move as fast you can to the ball repeating the command. When you get to the ball lean down with your head and grasp it between your teeth. Look up at your doggy and move your head from the right to the left, then let the ball fall out of your mouth and onto the ground. Now repeat this process three times and afterwards allow your doggy to do it himself. Make sure to practice many times and don't forget to "Become the Doggy"
Day 5. Play dead - this trick is much like the trick "Rollover" except you only go halfway. So as you get down on all fours to show your doggy this trick you say "Play Dead Lassie". Then you lay down on your stomach, rollover to your back and put your legs and your arms in the air bent halfway with absolutely no movement. Now repeat this process three times while giving the command "Play Dead Lassie". Next show your doggy how to do the trick using the same instructions as the "Rollover" trick, except when your doggy is halfway over and his legs are pointing straight up in the air, you are going stop him there and hold him in place while repeating the command "Play Dead Lassie".
Well that's it, 5 dog tricks to teach your doggy in 5 days. Make sure to practice our regular basis, preferably daily.

Post a CommentYour methods are interesting however forcing a dog into a position is not a good idea. I personally recommend using a treat to trick the dog into the position. I.E. raising a treat by their nose and bringing it back to put them into the sit position. This way the position becomes natural and not forced.
While I've already taught my dog all of these tricks... Your method is interesting and the article made me laugh. Great job.
