Second Annual 5k for Earth Day
For the second year in a row, the city of Chicago will be the backdrop for a 5K walk/run event benefiting the 26th Ward Community Reinvestment Fund, the 35th Ward Annual Holiday Gift Drive, The Global Exchange, and Friends of the Park. The walk/run event will take participants along Humboldt Boulevard while circling Alexander Von Humboldt Park. The event will be providing re-usable goodie bags, recycling centers for water bottles and cardboard, as well as encouraging runners to wear "sheddable" layers of clothing that the runner/walker would like to donate. Earth Day Parks and Preserves Clean Up
On April 16th from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. join thousands of earth do-gooders and clean up the over 100 parks in Chicago in celebration of Earth Day. Activities include mulching trees, planting, clearing brush, picking up trash and other debris, as well as fixing up area playgrounds for children. Green Living Expo & Farmers Market
This large expo featuring health and environmental groups as well as local farmers with organic fruits and vegetables will again be held at the Humboldt Park Boathouse Pavilion on April 23, 2011. Companies scheduled to have exhibits at the 2011 event include: Rainforest Chicago; Girls on the Run; Native Energy; West Town Bikes; and SolAir Works to name a few. For more information, click here.
Urban Habitat Chicago Earth Day 2011 Workshop
Urban Habitat Chicago teams up with the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum to present a hands-on Earth Day event. Demonstrations and activities will teach visitors how to start a home garden from seeds, a do-it-yourself vermicompositing workshop, home storm water management as well as the opportunity to taste local organically grown vegetables.

Earth Day Concert: Children of the Earth
Another event happening at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is the Children of the Earth concert. This fun-filled musical event led by Joe Reilly will be held on April 23 at 11 a.m. as well as at 1 p.m. Joe will teach audiences about the environment and our responsibility all while singing snappy and fun songs. Ticket prices are: adults $9 and children $6.
