5 Easy American Idol Halloween Costumes

Rebecca White-Glanders
American Idol has been a hit in the U.S. for years, with it's offbeat performances and outlandishly memorable characters. If you're looking for a unique but easily recognizable Halloween costume, consider one of the American Idol favorites of recent years. They're easy to put together, and get lots of recognition and lots of laughs. Below are five popular characters to consider for an American Idol Halloween costume.

Clay Aiken

Far from his days as an American Idol fave with an awkward innocence and soulful voice, Clay Aiken is going the scary way of Carrot Top. Short red hair will be much easier to manage than the crazy new look he's taken on for Broadway. Pick up a short red wig and a container of hair gel, and have some fun. Spike it up, or over. Then break out the make-up. Clay Aiken always seems to have a hint of lip gloss, some powder and a touch of eye liner about him.

Sanjaya

Ex-Idol contestant Sanjaya was always best known for his mop of crazy hair, which he styled in all sorts of weird ways. SpiritHalloween.com offers the perfect Sanjaya-esque wig for $16.99. Pick out some crazy, smooth, slightly too tight clothes, and the transformation is complete.

Chris Daughtry

Idol contestant turned rocker Chris Daughtry is more popular now than he ever was in his idol days. His signature bald head and rocker look make him easy to copy for Halloween. If you're not already bald, you'll want to purchase a bald cap. Besides that, jeans and a punk-rock t-shirt with sandals or boots are good clothes. Be sure to add faux earrings, thick leather or faux leather bracelets, and a funky punk rock necklace. And, bam - you're the lead singer of Daughtry.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson has changed looks a couple of times, but her most interesting one is the long hair with highlights. If your hair doesn't already meet this requirement, buy a long, loose reddish-brown wig and highlight it using easy to use Halloween dyes. Quasi-punk clothes will complete the look, and feel free to use scissors. T-shirts and skirts with the sleeves or bottoms chopped off will work well. Add some punk-style jewelry, and you're ready to go.

Jordin Sparks

Jordin Sparks has launched a promising career and has gained lots of airtime with her recent singles. The best way to start a Jordin Sparks costume is with a long, crimped hair wig like this one. You'll need to wear make-up (slightly heavier than normal) and accentuate your lips. A classy, slightly revealing outfit should finish this look.
