1 - Join an Online Rewards Program
Many programs online reward you for making purchases with participating retailers. On a personal note, my favorite is MyPoints. You link to participating retailers from the MyPoints.com website, make your purchase, and get points. Those points can later be redeemed for gift cards. Some programs even allow you to earn cash! These programs are nice, as you are rewarded for buying something you would have bought anyways.
2 - Look for Coupon or Discount Codes
Many shoppers mistakenly believe coupons are only for grocery shopping, but they are not. With online shopping, you don't get an actual coupon, but a code to use. Many websites have these discount codes listed free of charge. Perform a standard internet search to find them. Search with the retailer name and the phrases "coupon codes," or "discount codes." Not all retailers offer these discounts for online shoppers, but a large number do. Enter in the provided code at the checkout.
3 - Always Price Compare
What is nice about shopping online is that you can easily compare the prices of 10 or more retailers in the time it could take you to drive to one local store! How amazing is that? If you are shopping for clothes, it can be difficult to price compare because we all have our own favorite brands. If you are an Old Navy fan, you will shop there. Anything else, such as clothes sold at different retailers, movies, books, toys, and household appliances, be sure to price compare first. Visit the online websites of well-known retailers or perform a standard internet search with the name or type of product you are looking for.
4 - Do Not Pay High Shipping Costs
On a personal note, my biggest pet peeve about shopping online is that some retailers do not tell you their shipping costs until the last minute. I usually find this is for a reason, because I don't proceed. Never pay too much in shipping. It is best to look for free or discounted shipping. With large orders, flat rate shipping can save you money. Although it sort of defeats the purpose of shopping online, many retailers now allow you to pickup your order at a local store. Do it if you can and if the cost to ship to your home is too high.
5 - Don't Buy What You Don't Need
As previously stated, shopping online is quick, easy, and convenient. Unfortunately, many shoppers have an impulse buying problem. It is easier to buy on impulse online, as all it takes is one click. The best way to save money shopping online is to only buy what you need.

Post a CommentAnother great way to save money is to join a loyalty membership. I use www.cashforgasandgroceries.com and get a $25 Visa gift card each month just for shopping at the same grocery store or gas station. It's simple, all I do is mail in my receipts each month.
