5 Engagement Ring Trends of 2011

Choosing the right engagement ring can be a challenge. You will want to find a ring that not only looks great on your finger, but that also complements your personality. If you're looking for a trendy ring style, you may want to be aware of the top five engagement ring trends of 2011.

1. Cluster Stones

Cluster engagement rings consist of a cluster of stones that are meant to look like a bigger stone. They may also have accent stones around the rim as well, such as this one carat total weight diamond engagement ring at Helzberg Diamonds. Whether you want a simple ring or one that's very glam, the cluster style might be right for you.

2. Twisted Side Stones

If you want a ring that has side stones in a very intricate design, the twisted engagement ring style may be right for you. These rings generally consist of a round stone with a rim of stones outside of it. The stones on the side twist into a beautiful design. Check out this 14K white gold 5/8 carat total weight engagement ring at Kay Jewelers.

3. Split Band

Split band engagement rings offer a somewhat classic look with an elegant twist. They generally consist of a solitaire round or princess cut stone and a split, or open, band. This 2011 engagement ring trend will give your band a little extra touch. To see an example of a beautiful split band ring, check out the Lucida with diamond band at Tiffany & Co.

4. Vintage-Inspired

Vintage-inspired weddings are all the rage this season, so there's no surprise that vintage-inspired engagement rings are also in. The Marquise cut is especially popular this year. Vintage-inspired rings with floral designs, such as the diamond accent fleur-de-lis and heart kite ring in 10k white gold from the Zales vintage collection, are also becoming more popular.

5. Solitaires

Although three-stone engagement rings have been all the rage in the past few years, simple seems to be better right now. Whether you opt for a solitaire or a solitaire with a split band, chances are that three-stone rings aren't going to be what the jewelers will be trying to show you this year.

Remember that you don't need to select a ring that fits in with these current trends. In fact, if you're a trendsetter, chances are that you will want to avoid many of these 2011 engagement ring trends.
