The Apple iPad may not seem like as natural a fit for the generic business device market, as say a netbook, but add a few peripherals and Apps, and you just may be surprised what can be achieved with what is undoubtedly an entertainment powerhouse.

There's an App for That...

Business Productivity Software

Apple has released the iWork software bundle specifically for the iPad, taking advantage of its larger screen. Each application, Pages (documents), Numbers (spreadsheets) and Keynote (presentations) are available for $9.99 a piece.

While there was some confusion initially over the ability to import and export in the native windows formats (doc etc) Apple would have us rest assured the interface is two-way.

RDP Tools

The App story currently sells a number of apps for accessing a remote computer. JAADU is reportedly of the best and includes a plug in for easy connection to Windows machines. If you plan on purchasing one of these apps make sure it includes access to an onscreen keyboard.

JAADU sells for $25, JAADU RDP connect is extra.

New iPad Apps

Apps developed specifically for the iPad and its' increased real estate will likely be where the device shines.

Additional Hardware...

Keyboard Dock - $69

Until you get hands on with the onscreen keyboard it is difficult to know how it will perform for data entry tasks. Given that the Applie iPad onscreen keyboard takes up much of the display, it's hard to imagine not needing an external keyboard for any kind of serious data entry.

A keyboard dock can be purchased for $69. The dock acts as a holder for the Apple iPad.

Apple iPad USB Power Adaptor - $29

Out of the box, the Apple iPad is recharged via a USB dock to your PC or laptop. So, to use an Apple iPad as your primary business machine, you need to carry with you, a secondary laptop, to charge it? Well, no not really, you can also purchase an an adaptor that allows you to charge your Apple iPad directly from an electrical socket--for $29.

Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adaptor - $29

The image at the top of this page is NOT the apple ipad. It is a fake mockup image likely created before the ipad came out. It looks nothing like the ipad, and is running OS X, which the ipad will not do.
