1. Kath and Kim. The family name is Day with the members being obviously Kath and her daughter, Kim. Kath is Molly Shannon, and Kim is Selma Blair. This show hit the air in October of 2008. It runs with a bit of a convoluted plot that strains the imagination to see how it all fits together. The show does have some moments when the relationship of Kath with her boyfriend sandwich shop owner, Phil (played by John Michael Higgins), and her daughter produce some fairly good laughs.
2. How I Met Your Mother. This show is pitched as family oriented, but probably just makes the cut. A little corny at times, it can bring several good laughs during each episode. The cast is anchored by Josh Mosby and Neil Patrick Harris. It centers around the recounting of the adventures of a father explaining to his daughter the steps that led up to meeting her mother. This is an event that may never be reached.
3. Two and a Half Men. If the one of the central characters was not a playboy bachelor, this show could be great for any family. In reality, it does not miss by much. Most families will enjoy this show. It has already established itself as a fan favorite since 2003. The show centers around Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) whose brother Alan (Jon Cryer) and son, Jake (Angus T. Jones) move in with him after Alan's wife leaves him. The comedy is based on the sometimes misguided efforts of Charlie to maintain his free and easy lifestyle without corrupting the young man, Jake.
4. The New Adventures of Old Christine. Old Christine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is called this in the title because her ex-husband Richard (Clark Gregg) has a new and younger love interest also called Christine. Christine is kept busy working in a women's gym and raising her son, Ritchie (Trevor Gagnon). The show is worth tuning in to watch. It will give you several good reasons to laugh out loud.
5. Everybody Hates Chris. This show is narrated by Chris Rock. It is loosely based on events that he experienced in his childhood. The name is surely supposed to remind would be viewers of "Everybody Loves Raymond." Tyler James Williams is very good as Chris. Terry Crews plays Julius, and Tichina Arnold is Rochelle. The plot and comedy both center around Chris as he grows up in a bad neighborhood of New York City. He has to deal with a black in a white school, as well as, putting up with his brother and sister who are always bringing problems to his life.
