The holidays are all about joy and enjoyment of time with friends, family and food. It certainly is not a time to stress about your diet. That's why I don't think there are any choices of high calorie holiday food which you should bar from your diet all together. However, there are some fattening holiday foods which are best enjoyed in moderation. Here are five high calorie holiday food choices which you should limit in your diet. Everyone has different tastes. Some of the fattening holiday food listed below might not appeal to you anyway, so you will be happy to cut them from your diet.

Alcohol

Alcohol can really mount up the calories. Not to mention, overindulgence in alcohol can pose other health risks. Limiting your intake of alcohol is a fairly easy way to cut out high calorie holiday food. There are many people choose not to drink for health reasons. Therefore, avoiding alcohol is socially acceptable at holiday parties.

Sugary Soft Drinks

Drinking lots of sugary soft drinks at the holidays is a quick way to mount up the calories. This high calorie holiday food is easily substituted for water or other low calorie alternatives.

Ready-made Foods

Many people appreciate the convenience of serving ready-made foods at the holidays, such as pizzas or finger foods. The problem is that these types of foods are often high in sodium, calories or fat. Opting for homemade rather than ready made foods at the holidays is a good idea. Not only does the food taste better, but is often healthier for you.

Artificial Ingredients

Fattening holiday foods includes many types of food which are made from artificial ingredients. Instead, opt for foods made from fresh, natural ingredients such as vegetables, fruit and whole wheat flower. Natural foods give you more nourishment. Therefore you won't have to eat as much to feel full. For instance, choose roasted potatoes over a bag of potato chips.

Candy

Candy is a high calorie holiday food which is best enjoyed in moderation. Focus on healthy nourishing meals, rather than filling up on Christmas candy before it is breakfast time. One way to help you accomplish this is by planning three festive and healthy meals a day during the holidays. This will keep you fuelled up and less prone to filling up on high calorie holiday food such as candy.

Finally, getting regular exercise is a great way to stay healthy during the holidays. Why not go out for a scenic walk with the family after opening presents? It is a great way to spend time together and stay fit at the same time.
