5 Festive Christmas Markets to Visit in France

There are a few good Christmas markets in France that can be visited just for a day or a weekend if you live in the United Kingdom. Why not drive to France this year by using the Euro Tunnel or by travelling on the train to France from England.

Here are a few of these markets that will be available this December 2010.

Calais Christmas Market - Every year there is a Christmas Market in Calais outside the theatre. A huge market for everyone to enjoy to buy those special Christmas gifts. The market will be available every weekend in December 2010. There are one hundred stalls selling all kinds of things from arts and crafts to crunchy biscuits. It is a great day out if you want to just explore the market. There are other places to see in the area too, such as, the Church of the Notre Dame, the Fortresses, the Calais Lighthouse, the Memorial Museum, the statue of the Six Burghers from Rodin, the town hall and the Fine Arts Museum and the International City of Lace. There is also a beautiful beach in Calais too. Take a stroll along the Esplanade whilst you are in Calais to get some great shots with your camera.

Bethune Christmas Market - This Christmas market takes place between 27th November to 31st December every year. Bethune is a small town in Northern France. The market sells festive crafts, regional produce and other gifts. The market takes place near the Belfry tower in the central part of the city. It is one the best Christmas markets in the region. Bethune is a beautiful place to explore during the festive season.

Disneyland Paris Christmas Market - This market takes place at the Disney Village, which is lit up by a thousand fairy lights over the stalls and chalets. The area twinkles with bright festive stalls and there is entertainment along the way with sleigh characters to meet, such as, elves and stilted musicians. A festive market that sells festive treats and gifts to buy here. This year Disneyland Resort Paris are celebrating their fifteenth anniversary, so there will be lots of entertainment from DJ parties, street entertainment and concerts.

Paris Christmas Market - Christmas markets make Paris come alive during the festive season. There are markets all around Paris from November to December 2010. La Defense is one market that should not be missed if visiting Paris. There is an ice skating rink there and stalls selling many types of Christmas gifts. Another market to visit is Les Halles in the city centre. Many Christmas gifts can be bought here from chocolates to all kinds of art and craft gifts. Other Christmas markets not to be missed in Paris are De la Tour de Rome, De Saint-Germains-des-Pres, Montparnasse, Place Saint-Sulpice and Noisy le Grand.

Brest Christmas Market - This market takes place from 4th to 24th December 2010 in Brittany. The market has chalets selling Christmas gifts. Children can enjoy lots of entertainment including a small train with Santa Clause. There is mulled wine and traditional food, which is served to visitors. The market is near the beautiful harbour known as the Rade de Brest. Brest is a unique place to visit in Brittany with its historic and oldest castle in the world still in use today according to Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia. The castle know as the Chateau de Brest can be seen in the distance from where the market is held.
