5 Firefox Plugins for Streamlining Your Work Day: Part 2

Save Time and Do Work with Less Effort

Paul Cabrera
Firefox provides it all from usability, security, speed, and customization and more. One would find it hard to ask for anything else. In this article I will outline how to get the most out of Firefox for any internet user who wants to save time. These following 5 plugins will save you time and effort while working. Anyone from professors to students and veterans to novices will enjoy the plug-ins. Utilize your time and effort to its fullest, hurry up and check these out:

1. Download Statusbar

Download Statusbar places downloads on the status bar, rather than opening up a new window like Firefox's default download manager does. I find this to extremely intrusive. Download manager places your downloads into the unused portions of Firefox's status bar, along with a progress bar to track each download. This allows you to download your favorite files without that annoying window that pops up after every download.

2. URL Fixer

URL Fixer will automatically correct any typing errors you make when typing in a URL of a website. (for example, www.espnn.com or htp://www.espn.com) URL Fixer corrects misspellings of .net, .com, .gov, .edu, .mil as well as protocols such as http.

3. Tab Mix Plus

Tab Mix Plus allows users to have a more precise control scheme of tabs. Features of Tab Mix Plus include undoing closed tabs, undoing closed windows, duplicating tabs, tab clicking options, and controlling tab focus, as well as much more. Tab Mix Plus also has a session manager which features crash recovery. If Firefox crashes, this will automatically save then restore your open windows and tabs.

4. Scrapbook

Scrapbook is a great tool for students and anyone who is researching a topic. Scrapbook is used to save any interesting blurb you find on a website directly to your hard drive, along with the URL of the site. Scrapbook also allows you to categorize and organize these blurbs, similar to bookmarking. So when you need to create a bibliography or works cited page, all the information is conveniently and easily located.

5. IE Tab

As web developers begin to use a more structured coding, I find that this is needed less and less. However, once in a while you will encounter some websites which only open correctly in Internet Explorer. Instead of searching around for that Internet Explorer icon, this plugin will allow you to open an Internet Explorer tab right in Firefox.
