5 Foods that Slow Aging

Stacy J. Day
No one wants to get old, but unfortunately it's an inevitable part of life. Different people handle aging differently, and one person may become extremely upset upon finding a gray strand of hair or two and another person may gracefully accept aging as a natural part of life. There are certain foods that people can eat in order to slow the aging process, and five such foods are highlighted below.

Spinach - this food has been considered a super food for many years, and with good reason. Spinach has numerous antioxidants as well as very high Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC), which is a test tube analysis of how powerful of an antioxidant a food is. Spinach can be prepared in a variety of dishes, from salads to quiche to soups, salads or even steamed.

Blueberries - Another high ORAC food, blueberries are excellent for fighting aging due to their high amounts of vitamins C and E, and they're also perfect for making the best smoothies you've ever tasted. High in antioxidants, blueberries help to fight off the free radicals that accelerate aging and diminish mental capacity.

Prunes - Not many people would believe that this fruit is great at decelerating aging, but believe it or not it is. This is due to the fact that there is a high amount of fiber, antioxidants and extremely high ORAC. This fruit helps to boost the immune system, reverse anemia, and even improve digestion. People with diabetes should be careful when consuming prunes and or raisins because of their high sugar content.

Eggs - this food has been given a bad rap because of its high cholesterol content, but they're surprisingly very nutritious and according to Ann Lousie Gittleman, author the Fat Flush plan, eggs are actually a super food due to their high amino acid and sulphur compounds. Eggs are also an excellent source of selenium, which is great for maximizing brain function and memory. Vitamin A is also an important vitamin in eggs, which encourages healthy skin and improves night vision.

Red Wine - It's true that red wine is an excellent way to slow the aging process. Researchers have discovered that this is due to the high levels of resveratrol, a potent antioxidant that has the ability to intercept cell damage in both the heart and brain in order to help a person remain youthful longer. Only a small amount of wine a day will suffice, usually around 4 - 6 ounces is perfect.
