1. Halona Blowhole-West Side

Located on the East side of Oahu, Halona Blowhole features incredible formations of sea-carved lava rock, majestic caverns, spectacular views of the ocean, including Maui or Molokai on particularly clear days, and a majestic blowhole that was revered by ancient Hawaiians. The blowhole was naturally formed by an underwater sea cave that releases pressure when hit with waves, and the results are truly spectacular, with 30 to 40 foots torrents of water a common sight.

2. Shangri-La-Kahala

In 1937, wealthy Oahu resident Doris Duke completed construction of her dream home, named Shangri La after the fabled city. The name was apt, as it is a legendary residence of its own. Built on the Kahala coast, in the most prized real estate of the Diamond Head area, the home is built in the Islamic style, surrounded by indigo blue seas, and features an extensive collection of world-class Islamic artwork, collected by Duke herself over her entire lifetime. Now the home is open free to the public for guided tours and study of the artwork. It is difficult to out the beauty of Shangri La into words, but it is a must-see for the adventurous visitor.

3. The Queen's Summer Palace and Royal Mausoleum-Nuuanu

For all its beaches and waves, Hawaii offers exceptional beauty deep in its tropical valleys. In Nuuanu Valley, conveniently located above downtown Honolulu, the Hawaiian Royals used to summer, basking in the mountain-cool breezes and lush foliage. Nuuanu houses Queen Emma's former summer house, now open to the public. Also in Nuuanu is the Royal Mausoleum, where dozens of Hawaiian Royals are buried. it is a unique opportunity to see a royal lineage right here in the United States.

4. Pali Lookout- Nuuanu

Featuring a dramatic, 300 foot drop, this lookout rests atop the mountains that separate Windward Oahu from Southern Oahu. It is a culturally significant site from Native Hawaiians, and was the site of several great battles. One is given a view of all Hawaii has to offer- mountains, sea, beaches, rocky outcroppings of islands. It is a place of strong winds and a sense of peace. Also, one can hike down the old Pali Highway, an old horse and buggy path that offers incredible views and a up close view of Hawaii's unique rainforest fauna.

5.Koko Head Trail

This is an easy, rewarding trail that leads to the top of an extinct volcano, one that overlooks Oahu's west shore and offers an incredible view during sunrise of sunset. In summers it turns a beautiful verdant green. It is mild enough for the whole family to participate, takes only 45 minutes up and down, and is close proximity to Hanauma Bay, which offers incredible fish viewing and beaches.
